<br /> PROCLAMATION RECOGNIZING GRACE CHRISTIAN SCHOOL'S
<br /> MEN'S BASEBALL TEAM
<br /> WHEREAS,the Grace Christian School Men's Baseball Team,the Crusaders,exhibited hard work,dedication,and
<br /> exceptional talent in the North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association(NCISAA)Championship; and,
<br /> WHEREAS,the Grace Christian School Men's Baseball Team won the 2022 NCISAA Men's State Baseball Best of Three
<br /> Games Championship Series on May 21, 2022 against Lawrence Academy of Merry Hill, NC after adopting an "Unfinished
<br /> Business" mindset entering into the 2022 season after falling in the state championship series during their 2021 campaign;
<br /> and,
<br /> WHEREAS,the Crusaders dominated the first game in the series with a mercy ruling and a score of 17-4 in five innings, but
<br /> did not go unchallenged in the second game;and,
<br /> WHEREAS,after giving up an initial two runs,Junior pitcher Joseph Taylor retired 10 Lawrence Academy batters and even
<br /> though defensive mishaps lead to the Crusaders trailing 4-3 going into the fifth inning,the Crusaders buckled down and
<br /> following a single hit by Taylor,a double down the left field line by Junior Riley Mullen,Junior Zack Hare driving tying RBI
<br /> with a single into left field scoring Taylor, then Freshman Cole Faulk crushing a fastball deep into left center field for the
<br /> winning RBI double, Riley Mullen shutting out the Lawrence Academy hitters,and a final run in the sixth inning,the
<br /> Crusaders determined "Business was Finished"and dogpiled to celebrate winning the State Championship;and,
<br /> WHEREAS,under the leadership and guidance of Head Coach and Coach of the Year Michael Matson,as well as Assistant
<br /> Coaches Aaron Faulk,Wade Hare,and Justin Cox,the team was able to finish the season with a 22-3 overall record and a
<br /> perfect 7-0 record in conference play;and,
<br /> WHEREAS,the Lee County Board of Commissioners recognizes the Crusaders Men's Baseball Team members Landon Jones,
<br /> Riley Mullen,Jarret Crabtree, Daniel Stalder,Zack Hare, Cole Faulk,Zach Bishop,Will Morrison,Alex Larson, and Dalton
<br /> Maddox for the accomplishments they demonstrated throughout the season and for their commitment, perseverance and
<br /> love of the sport of baseball; and,
<br /> WHEREAS,the Lee County Board of Commissioners would additionally like to recognize the Crusaders who also were
<br /> selected to the All-State Team, including Brandon Crabtree,Jesse Mitchell,Joseph Taylor,and Griffin Matthews for their
<br /> endurance in defending the field and securing the game-winning run in the sixth inning;and,
<br /> WHEREAS,the Crusaders Men's Baseball Team represented Lee County admirably in the NCISAA Men's State Baseball
<br /> Championship to close out a remarkable 2022 baseball season.
<br /> NOW,THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED,that the Lee County Board of Commissioners proclaim Wednesday,July 131', 2022 as
<br /> Grace Christian School Crusaders Men's Baseball Team Day in Lee County, North Carolina and call upon residents to
<br /> observe this day recognizing and celebrating the Team and their contributions to and successes shared with the Lee County
<br /> community.
