Bunax 17 YAGF 520
MINUTES OF THE MEETING
OF THE
LEE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
IN ITS CAPACITY AS THE GOVERNING BODY
01, THE
LEE COUNTY WATER AND SEWER DISTRICT NO. 1
NOVEMBER 23, 1998
A meeting of the governing body of the Lee County Water and Sewer District
f No. 1 was held in the Commissioners' Room, Lee County Government Center, 106
Hillerest Drive, Sanford, North Carolina, immediately following the regular meeting
of the Lee County Board of Commissioners held on said date. Commissioners
present were Jimmie M. Cox, F. Hubert Garner, T. Ervin Mansfield, Bertha L.
Matthews, J. Douglas Moretz, Nathan E. Paschal and Robert T. Reives.
Chairperson Matthews presided and Gaynell M. Lee, Clerk to the Board of
Commissioners, acted as Secretary of the meeting.
Commissioner Garner moved to approve the consent agenda as printed, which
consisted of the following item:
• Minutes of the November 16, 1998 meeting
Commissioner Cox seconded the motion, and upon a vote, the results were as follows:
Aye: Cox, Garner, Mansfield, Matthews, Moretz, Paschal and Reives
Nay: None
The Chairperson ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously.
The Board considered a request from Public Works Director Kenny Cole to
increase water rates for Lee County customers for the Phase I Water Project. Mr.
Cole told the Board there is a shortage of customers needed to retire the Phase I Water
System debt. Of the 1350 customers needed, only 1135 signed up, creating a 14%
shortage. Water bills of approximately 530.00 per month were anticipated at the
beginning of the water project. Mr. Cole told the Board current estimates are for bills
to average $34.00 per month. The first set of water bills will be going out to
customers' on December 5, 1998. After some discussion, Commissioner Garner
moved to approve the increase in water- rates for Lee County customers.
