MINUTES OF SPECIAL MEETING <br /> OF <br /> BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS - <br /> April 15, 1957 <br /> The Board of County Commissioners of Lee County met at the Commissione •s <br /> 'Room at the Courthouse on the 15th day of April, 1957, at 7:30 o&clock <br /> P. M. , in special called session, pursuant to notice duly given as by law <br /> required. <br /> The following members of the Board were present for dispatch of business: <br /> Commissioners Percy Measamer, Sion H. Kelly, Clyde J. Atkins, Evander <br /> Winstead and J. M. Cheshire. <br /> Chairman Percy Measamer presided and the following business was <br /> transacted: <br /> Commissioner Cheshire presented and moved the adoption of a road petition <br /> I submitted by C. M. Douglas in West Sanford Township, which said petition <br /> requested the grading and graveling of a road in West Sanford Township <br /> running from a point on the Sanford-Carbonton Road r -s one mile north <br /> • of the intersection of the said Sanford-Carbonton Road with the Pocket Church <br /> road by the West Carroll place to the C. M. Douglas place, a distance of <br /> 0. 9 miles. The motion for the adoption of this petition was seconded by <br /> Commissioner Winstead and the same was unanimously adopted and ordered <br /> forwarded to the Highway Commissioners Office. <br /> Commissioner Winstead introduced the following resolution and moved its <br /> adoption to-wit; <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Sanford operates certain recreational facilities <br /> established primarily for the benefit for the citizens of Sanford; and whereas, <br /> many residents of Lee County live adjacent to and near the City of Sanford <br /> and have the use and benefit of the recreational facilities of the City of <br /> Sanford; and whereas, there is no provision under the law for appropriations <br /> by Lee County of funds for recreations purposes; and whereas, the recreat- <br /> ional facilities of the City of Sanford are available to and are of benefit of <br /> all the citizens of Lee County whether within or without the corporate limits • <br /> of Sanford; <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the Board of County Commissioners <br /> of Lee County that the County Attorney be authorized and directed to draw <br /> a bill to be introduced in the legislature of the State of North Carolina, • <br /> authorizing and empowering the said Board of Commissioners of Lee County .1 <br /> to appropriate annually, from the general fund of the County, an amount <br /> not to exceed the sum of $3, 000. 00, to be used as an appropriation by Lee <br /> County to the recreational fund of the City of Sanford, and the money so <br /> appropriated shall be paid by the officials of Lee County to the recreational <br /> fund of the City of Sanford and the same shall be used only for recreational <br /> purposes. <br /> Commissioner Atkins seconded the motion for the adoption of the ab:dve <br /> resolution and the same was unanimously adopted by the Board. <br /> There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting <br /> was adjourned. <br /> `rirrnan <br /> Clerk <br />
