r <br /> \ ;A <br /> Rq-• <br /> t, <br /> MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING <br /> OF <br /> THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br /> October 6, 1958 <br /> The Board of Commissioners of Lee County met in regular monthly <br /> session in the Commissioners Room at the Courthouse on Monday, October <br /> 6, 1958, at 10:00 o'clock A. M. with the following members of the Board <br /> present for dispatch of business: <br /> Commissioners Evander C. Winstead, Percy Measamer, Sion H. Kelly, <br /> Clyde J. Atkins, and J. M. Cheshire. <br /> Chairman Percy Measamer presided and the following business was <br /> transacted: <br /> The meeting was opened with prayer by the Rev. Don Carson, Pastor <br /> of the First Presbyterian Church of Sanford. <br /> The minutes of the regular meeting of September 2, 1958 were read <br /> and approved. <br /> Dr. N. R. Carter, County Health Officer, presented the monthly report <br /> of the County Health Department. <br /> Mr. E. P. Clark, Custodian of the County buildings, reported on the <br /> condition of all of the buildings owned by the county. <br /> Mr. James O. Bridges, Chief of the Sanford Volunteer Fire Department, <br /> requested that the County contribute funds towards the purchase of hose, nozzles <br /> and other equipment for the new City fire truck for that said fire truck also, <br /> serves citizens of Lee County. No formal action was taken on this request <br /> and the matter was carried over for further study. <br /> Miss Monica Brown, County Home Demonstration Agent, presented monthly <br /> report of her activities. <br /> Commissioner Winstead pointed out that the property of Herman T. <br /> Brown, located in Jonesboro Township, the same being real estate, had been <br /> listed for taxation through error for the year 1958 at $3600. 00 and that at <br /> the time said property was listed for taxation thatsconstrudtion bf: the same <br /> had not been completed. Commissioner Winstead then moved that <br /> Brown's real estate in Jonesboro Township be figured for taxes for the year <br /> 1958 at 50% of its value of $3600. 00 and that the tax collector be granted <br /> relief for the year 1958 on said taxes in the amount of $1260. 00. This <br /> motion was seconded by Commissioner Cheshire and the same was adopted <br /> by the unanimous vote of the Board. <br /> K. S. Harmon, County Farm Agent, presented monthly report of the <br /> activities of his office. <br /> The Tax Supervisor, Mr. Paul Lucas, presented a list of the persons <br /> who had failed to list taxes for the year 1958. The County Tax Supervisor <br /> and the County Attorney were instructed to contact these individuals and to <br /> advise them that it was a violation of the law to fail to list taxes for any <br /> year. <br /> A representative of the advertising department oft etS' ord Herald <br /> appeared before the Board and advised that the special'a non was to be <br /> published commemorating the anni�v rsary of the Sieg4of Cornell - Dubilier <br /> Electric Corporation. Commissioners moved that a half page ad be <br />
