OF BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS January 5, 1959 The Board of Commissioners of Lee County met in regular monthly session in the Commissioners Room at the Courthouse on Monday, January 5, 1959 at 10:00 o'clock A. M. with the following members of the Board present for dispatch of business: Commissioners Sion H. Kelly, Evander C. Winstead, Percy Measamer, Ralph Groce and Clyde J. Atkins. Chairman Sion H. Kelly presided and the following business was transacted: The meeting was opened with prayer by the Rev. Max Vestal, Pastor of Shallow Well Christian Church. The minutes of the regular monthly meeting of December 1, 1959 were read and approved. D. F. Holder, Sheriff, presented monthly report-of the activities of his office. W. D. Gregson, Veterans Service Officer, presented monthly report of the activities of his office. The Chairman then called the attention of the Board to the death of J. B. O'Brien, Register of Deeds, on January 1, 1959, and expressed the regret of the Board upon the passing of Mr. O'Brien. There then followed a discussion of the duties and responsibilities of the Office of the Register of Deeds. Commissioner Winstead then moved that the salary of the Register of Deeds be set at $4, 200. 00 and that the salary of an Assistant Register of Deeds or Deputy Register of Deeds be set at $200. 00 per month, said salary to be effective as of January 1, 1959; Mr. Winstead then moved that all receipts of the Office of the Register of Deeds go into the general fund of the county. eagmotioipfas seconded by Commissioner Atkins and the sameigEti adopted by the unanimous vote of the Board. Commissioner Measamer nominated Mrs. Nette B. Keith to fill the unexpired term of J. B. O'Brien, deceased, as Register of Deeds of Lee County. The Chairman then announced that the floor was open for further nominations for the position of Register of Deeds, but no further names were presented. ap� pointed Commissioner Kelly moved that Mrs. Nette B. Keith befU ,pointed of Deeds of Lee County to fillthe unexpired term of J. B. O'Brien, deceased, by acclamation. This motion was seconded by Commissioner Measamer and the same was adopted by the unanimous vote of the Board.. On motion of Commissioner Winstead, which motion was seconded by Commissioner Measamer, bond of Mrs. Nette B. Keith was approved in the amount of $5, 000. 00, said bond having been written by the National Security Cor poration.
