MINUTES OF'SPECIAL MEETING OF BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS March 16, 1959 The Board of County Commissioners of Lee County met in special session in the Commissioners Room at the Courthouse on Monday night, March 16, 1959 at 7:30 o'clock P. M. pursuant to motion of adjournment at the March 2, 1959 Regular Meeting, with the following members of the Board present for dispatch of business: Commissioners: Percy Measamer, Ralph Groce, Clyde J. Atkins, and Sion H. Kelly. Chairman Sion H. Kelly presided and the following business was transacted: - On motion of Commissioner Measamer, which motion was seconded by Commissioner Atkins, the following is special act was unanimously approved and ordered forwarded to the Honorable J. Shelton Wicker and introduced for passage in the General Assembly, to-.wit: "BILL TO BE ENTITLED AN ACT RELATING TO THE AMASSING OF FUNDS WITH WHICH TO ERECT A NEW JAIL FOR LEE COUNTY OR TO IMPROVE THE EXISTING JAIL OF SAW COUNTY: The General Assembly of North Carolina do enact: Section 1: All deliquent taxes hereafter collected by Lee County shall, at the discretion of the Board of Commissioners of Lee County, go into a special fund to be used under the direction and in the discretion of the Lee County Board of Commissioners for the purpose of erecting a new jail for Lee County and for the purpose of adding to and/or improving the existing jail. Section 2: The Lee County Board of Commissioners is hereby authorized to levy, commencing with the 1959 tax levy, a special tax not in excess of 5 cents on each $100. 00 of property valuation of real and personal property to provide funds to be used in erecting a new jail for Lee County or for the purpose of adding to and/or improving the existing jail. Section 3: The Board of County Commissioners of Lee County is hereby authorized, pending the use and disbursement of all funds which may hereafter be collected by reason of said deliquent taxes and special levy, to invest such funds in such manner as will meet the approval 'of the North Carolina local Government Commission. Section 4: All laws and clauses of law•in conflict with this action are hereby repealed. Section 5: This act shall be in full force and effect from and after its radification.
