SPECIAL MEETING OF THE BOARD -OF..COUNTY COMMISSIONERS ' June 24, .1959 The Board of County Commisioners of Lee County-metiin Special Session in the Tax Collectors Office at the Courthouse •-louse on Wednesday night, June 24, 1959 at 7:30 o'clock P. M. pursuant to Notice of Special Meeting given as by law required. The following members of the Board were present for dispatch of business. Commissioners Clyde Atkins, Ralph Groce, Percy Measamer, Sion H. Kelly and Evander Winstead. Chairman Sion H. Kelly presided and the following business was transacted: The Chairman announced that the City of Sanford had appropriated-ear 6' had agreed to appropriate the sum of $10, 000. 00 towards the construction of a water tower in the Jonesboro Heights section of the City of-Sanford as an incentive to the industrial development of the City. The Chairman also announced that the City had agreed to take title to the water tower siteit and to assume the responsibility of maintenance for the tower and the water lines connecting it with the City water system. There then followed a detailed discussion of the question of the construction of a water tower as an incentive for the Industrial Development of Sanford and Lee County. After full discussion of this matter, Commissioner Measamer then moved the adoption of the following resolution, to-wit: "BE IT RESOLVED that there is hereby appropriated from the unexpended surplus funds of Lee County the sum of $30, 000. oa, which funds shall be used to assist the City of Sanford in the construction of a water storage tank outside the corporate limits of the City of Sanford in the Jonesboro Heights • Section and to assist the City of Sanford in the construction of water lines from said water storage tank to the water system in or at the corporate limits; of the City of Sanford; Be it further resolved that said sum of $30, 000. 00 shall be made available • and expended for the purposes aforesaid only at such time as' the City of Sanford shall accept deed to the site on which said water storage tank shall be located and shall agree to operate and maintain said storage tank and the connecting water lines. Be it further resolved that said appropriation is authorized and said funds are made available for the aforesaid Uses for the purpose of promoting the industrial development of the City of Sanford and the County of Lee. " Commissioner Groce seconded the motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution and the vote on the same was as follows: - Atkins .- aye Groce - aye ' • Winstead - aye - Measamer - aye Kelly - aye The Chairman then instructed the Attorney to notify the officials of the City of Sanford and the officials of Saco Lowell Shops, Inc. of the resolution.
