M. with the following members
of the Board present for the dispatch of business:
Sion H. Kelly.
Clyde H. Atkins
Ralph Groce
Percy Measamer •
Evander Winstead
The meeting was opened with prayer by Rev. Maxton Vestal, pastor
•
of the Shallow Well Christian Church. Commissioner Sion H. Kelly
presided and the following business was transacted:
• The minutes of the regular meeting of October 5, 1959, were read
and approved.
The report of E. P. Clark, custodian of county buildings was
received and discussed.
•
• The County Attorney then presented to the Board the following letter:
15 October 1959
Mr. W. W. Staton
• Clerk, Lee. County.Board of Commissioners •
Sanford, North Carolina
Re: Miss Carrie S. Gunter
Dear Mr. Staton: .
• On July 8, 1958, Miss Carrie S. Gunter, conveyed to the Confederate
Woman's Home, Fayetteville, North Carolina, an instrumentality of
the State of North Carolina, her real property in Lee County, which
is a house and lot in West Sanford and a house and lot in East
Sanford. From and after said date, to and until the 13th day of
July, 1959, title to this property was held by the Confederate
Woman's Home. On or about that date, it was re-conveyed to Miss
• Carrie Gunter by a warranty deed which appears of record in the
office of the Register of Deeds for Lee County.
In view of the fact that Miss Gunter was not the owner of the property
from July 1958 until July 1959, which would include listing time and
the beginning of the 'county's fiscal year, and in view of the fact
that the owner was an instrumentality of the State of North Carolina
during those periods, it is respectfully requested that she be
relieved from ad valorem taxation brought forward by the list taker
during said year.
Any further information•that you require with respect to this petition,
I will be glad to furnish. Please take this matter'up with your board
and in the event of an unfavorable determination by it, please furnish
us an opportunity to be heard.
With all good wishes, I am
Yours very truly,
/s/ J. W. Hoyle
JWH:rt
