- <br /> BOOK . <br /> OK 6 PACE � <br /> MINUTES OF THE ADJOURNED <br /> REGULAR MEETING OF THE <br /> BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br /> 11 January 1962 <br /> The Adjourned Regular Meeting of the Board of County Commissioners <br /> convened at 2:30 p. m., on January 11, 1962, in the Commissioner's Room <br /> at the Lee County Courthouse. Those present were Chairman Clyde J. Atkins, <br /> Commissioners Sion H. Kelly, Ralph Groce, Evander C. Winstead. Comm- <br /> issioner Edward,W. Cox was absent. W. Calvin Howell, Southern Pines, <br /> N. C. , member of Hayes, Howell and Associates, was present at the request <br /> of the Board. <br /> Commissioner Winstead moved the adoption of a resolution which would <br /> add Frazier Drive Extension to the County Map and would request the <br /> stabilization and maintenance of same. Chairman Atkins pointed out, this <br /> would be a charge on a special industrial account as this extension was to <br /> serve a re-located industrial plant and would not be a charge on Secondary <br /> Road funds. The petition on Highway Commission forms with attached map wa <br /> examined. The resolution was duly seconded by Commissioner Groce and wa; <br /> unanimously passed. The Clerk was directed to forward the petition to the <br /> District Highway Office. <br /> The bids for the construction of the jail addition were discussed. <br /> Commissioner Winstead moved that W. L. Jewell & Son, the low <br /> bidder, be awarded the contract for general construction, at its base bid <br /> with alternates G-2 and G-4, at a total price of $63, 100. 00, and all other <br /> bids be rejected. This was seconded by Commissioner Groce and on a roll <br /> call vote Chairman Atkins, Commissioners Kelly, Groce and Winstead voted <br /> in the affirmative. None voted in the negative. <br /> Commissioner Winstead moved that Glen W. Griffin, Tr/As Griffin <br /> Electric Company, the low bidder, be awarded the contract for wiring, <br /> at its base bid of $5, 963. 00, and all other bids be rejected. This was <br /> seconded by Commissioner Groce and on a roll call vote Chairman Atkins, <br /> Commissioners Kelly, Groce and Winstead voted in the affirmative. None <br /> voted in the negative. <br /> Commissioner Kelly moved that C. J. Carroll and Dan W. Gift, <br /> Tr/As Carroll & Gift, the low bidder, be awarded the contract for plumbing <br /> at its base bid of $12, 198. 00, and all other bids be rejected. This was <br /> seconded by Commissioner Winstead and on a roll call vote Chairman Atkins, <br /> Commissioners Kelly, Groce and Winstead voted in the affirmative. None <br /> voted in the negative. <br /> Commissioner Groce moved that C. J. Carroll and Dan W. Gift, <br /> Tr/As Carol/ & Gift,- the low bidder, be awarded the contract for heating <br /> at its base bid of $10, 381. 00, and all other bids be rejected. This was <br /> seconded by Commissioner Kelly and on a roll call vote Chairman Atkins, <br /> Commissioners Kelly, Groce and Winstead voted in the affirmative. None <br /> voted in the negative. <br /> Commissioner Winstead moved that Roanoke Iron and Bridge Works, <br /> Inc. , the low bidder, be awarded the contract for jail equipment and furnishin€:s <br /> at its base bid of $20, 600. 00, and all other bids be rejected. This was <br /> seconded by Commissioner Groce and on a roll call vote Chairman Atkins, <br /> Commissioners Kelly, Groce and Winstead voted in the affirmative. None <br /> voted in the negative. <br />
