M. on the 4th day of June, 1962, at the Commissioner's Room at <br /> the Lee County Courthouse. Those present were Chairman Clyde J. Atkins, <br /> Commissioners Edward W. Cox, Ralph Groce, Sion H. Kelly and Evander C. <br /> Winstead. None of the Commissioners were absent. <br /> Chairman Clyde J. Atkins presided and the following business was <br /> transacted: <br /> Reverend M. J. Murray, Pastor of the Jonesboro Heights Presbyterian <br /> Church, opened the meeting with prayer. <br /> Mr. W. D. Gregson, Veteran's Service Officer, presented to the Board <br /> a written report on behalf of the Board of Veteran's Affairs. <br /> Miss Mary Estelle Doyle, County Home Economist, appeared before the <br /> Board and gave a report on the activities of her office. <br /> Mr. Ken Harmon, County Agricultural Agent and Mr. Norman Brick- <br /> house, Assistant County Agricultural Agent, appeared before the Board and <br /> gave a report on the activities of the Agricultural Agent's Office. <br /> Mrs. Laura Rosser, Director, appeared before the Board and presented c <br /> their report on behalf of the Department of Public Welfare. <br /> O. A. Keller, Jr. , operator of ICeller's Rest Home, appeared before <br /> the Board and requested that funds be provided in the coming budget for <br /> medical care and ambulance fees to pay the overage of the expense of welfare <br /> patients. <br /> The written report of D. F. Holder, Sheriff, on the activities of his <br /> office was presented to the Board. <br /> Mr. L. L. Beckham, Director, appeared before the Board and reported <br /> on behalf of the Sanford-Lee County Department of Civil Defense. <br /> Mr. E. P. Clark, Superintendant of CountyBuildings, appeared before <br /> the Board and gave a report on the condition of the County Buildings. <br /> • Commissioner Kelly was recognized and presented the following letter <br /> which he had read to the Board by the Clerk and requested that it be spread <br /> upon the minutes of the meeting: <br /> "Mr. Chairman and Members of the Board: <br /> After my appointment to this Board, I was designated as <br /> the Commissioner in charge of certain offices and departments in <br /> our County Government. The Tax Supervisor's office was one of <br /> those placed under my supervision and direction. In the interest of <br /> good government and in an effort to serve better the citizens of Lee <br /> County I now feel compelled to bring certain matters to your attention <br /> and to make certain recommendations which I feel are necessary in <br /> order that the Tax Supervisor's Office shall function and shall perform <br /> its duties in the best interest of all the citizens of our County. <br /> a <br /> - Page 1 - <br />
