BOOK 6 PACE 164 <br /> MINUTES OF THE REGULAR <br /> MEETING OF THE BOARD OF <br /> COMMISSIONERS OF LEE COUNTY <br /> Tuesday, 3 September 1963 <br /> The Regular Meeting of the Board of County Commissioners of Lee <br /> County, met in the Commissioners Room at the Courthouse onTdesday, the <br /> 3rd day of September, 1963. Those present when the meeting opened were <br /> Chairman Sion H. Kelly and Commissioners Clyde J. Atkins, Edward W. Cox, <br /> Dr. John E. Dotterer and J. T. Ledwell. None of the Commissioners were <br /> absent. <br /> Chairman Sion H. Kelly presided and the following business was trans- <br /> acted: <br /> The meeting was opened by prayer given by the Reverend Clarence Low <br /> Miss Mary Estelle Doyle, County Home Extension Agent, appeared <br /> before the Board and gave a report on the activities of her office. <br /> Mr. Thomas M. Haislip, County Extension Agent and Mr. Bill Price, <br /> Assistant Agricultural Extension Agent, appeared before the Board and gave a <br /> report on the activities of the Extension Department Wiring the preceding <br /> month. <br /> Mr. Paul Lucas, Tax Collector, appeared before the Board and gave <br /> report on his collections during the preceding month. He also presented a list <br /> of insolvents for whom he requested relief from having to collect taxes. <br /> The World War One Veterans Barracks at Colon requested the use of <br /> the Courtroom for a meeting on Sunday, the 15th of September, 1963, and per- <br /> mission to use the Courtroom was granted by the Board. <br /> Mr. Raymond Ledford, County Director of Public Welfare, appeared <br /> before the Board and presented the report of the monthly activities of the De- <br /> partment of Public Welfare. <br /> Mr. J. Chandler Eakes, Register of Deeds, appeared before the Board <br /> and presented a written report on the activities of his office for the month of <br /> August. <br /> There was a discussion about the operation of the County Jail and the <br /> proposed City Court. <br /> Upon;motion;of;Conunissioner.,Ledwe4.whichcwas seconded by Comm- <br /> issioner Dotterer, and unanimously adopted, the Board resolved to support the <br /> position of all the railroads of the south, including the Southern Railway instead <br /> of the Southern Railway alone, in the freight rate suit presently pending in the <br /> United States District Court in Cincinatti, Ohio. <br /> The minutes of the July 22nd meeting and the August 5th meeting was <br /> discussed by the Members of the Board. <br /> Dr. O. D. Garvin, District Health Officer, appeared before the Board <br /> and gave the monthly report for the Health Department. Dr. Garvin discussed <br /> the medical examiners system with the Board. <br /> The written report of Mr. Hugh Talley, County Sanitarian, was pre- <br /> sented to the Board by Dr. Garvin. <br />
