UN�. MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING OF BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS FOR LEE COUNTY, NORTH CAIROLINA Monday, 3 August 1964 The regular meeting of the Board ofCommissioners for Lee County. North Carolina, convened at 10:15 o'clock a. tn. . in the Commiss- ioner's Room at the Lee County Courthouse. Those present when the meeting was called to order were Chairman Stan H. Kelly, Commissioners Clyde j. Atkins and J. T. Ledwell. Commissioners Edward W. Cox and John E. Dotterer were absent. Chairman Sion H. Kelly presided and the following business was transacted: Written reports were received by the Board from the following departments and officers: Sheriff's Department Clerk of The Superior Court Home Extension Agent Extension Chairman Tax Supervisor Chairman Kelly advised the Board he bad received a letter from Mr. R. Paul Lucas, Sr. , former tax collector. The letter is as follows: "August 3, 1964 Sanford, N. C. Mr. Sion Kelly, Chairman Lee County Board of Commissioners Dear Sir: I was asked to join you today in order that I might hear the decision of the County concerning who should be credited with the garnishment fee. I was told to take upon myself this_extra task when it wan learned that the Sheriff's Department could not fulfill the job in question, due to a time factor. I understood that 1 would gain the right to the fee as the deputy had, since it was now my responsibility to find the delinquent, and It was I who was responsible for this delinquent tax money ever finding its way into the County treasury. Now what type job could expect this of a man? Extra work. involving your time. your car, and your money. The garnis#mzent fee received was used for expenses. I regret that I was not informed of the fact that I was not due thin usual fee for my expenses when first told to perform this extra duty.
