UN�. <br /> MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING OF BOARD <br /> OF COMMISSIONERS FOR LEE COUNTY, <br /> NORTH CAIROLINA <br /> Monday, 3 August 1964 <br /> The regular meeting of the Board ofCommissioners for Lee <br /> County. North Carolina, convened at 10:15 o'clock a. tn. . in the Commiss- <br /> ioner's Room at the Lee County Courthouse. Those present when the <br /> meeting was called to order were Chairman Stan H. Kelly, Commissioners <br /> Clyde j. Atkins and J. T. Ledwell. Commissioners Edward W. Cox and <br /> John E. Dotterer were absent. <br /> Chairman Sion H. Kelly presided and the following business <br /> was transacted: <br /> Written reports were received by the Board from the following <br /> departments and officers: <br /> Sheriff's Department <br /> Clerk of The Superior Court <br /> Home Extension Agent <br /> Extension Chairman <br /> Tax Supervisor <br /> Chairman Kelly advised the Board he bad received a letter <br /> from Mr. R. Paul Lucas, Sr. , former tax collector. <br /> The letter is as follows: <br /> "August 3, 1964 <br /> Sanford, N. C. <br /> Mr. Sion Kelly, Chairman <br /> Lee County Board of Commissioners <br /> Dear Sir: <br /> I was asked to join you today in order that I might hear <br /> the decision of the County concerning who should be <br /> credited with the garnishment fee. <br /> I was told to take upon myself this_extra task when it <br /> wan learned that the Sheriff's Department could not fulfill <br /> the job in question, due to a time factor. <br /> I understood that 1 would gain the right to the fee as the <br /> deputy had, since it was now my responsibility to find the <br /> delinquent, and It was I who was responsible for this <br /> delinquent tax money ever finding its way into the County <br /> treasury. <br /> Now what type job could expect this of a man? Extra work. <br /> involving your time. your car, and your money. <br /> The garnis#mzent fee received was used for expenses. <br /> I regret that I was not informed of the fact that I was not <br /> due thin usual fee for my expenses when first told to <br /> perform this extra duty. <br />
