0 <br /> BOOK 6 t PAGE 461 <br /> MINUTES OF SPECIAL MEETING <br /> OF <br /> BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> FOR <br /> LEE COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA <br /> WEDNESDAY , JUNE 29, 1966 <br /> * . * * ::: * * * * * :g * * * '.= * ;tee. * ... * * * * * * * <br /> The special meeting of the Board of Commissioners for Lee County convened <br /> in the Commissioners' Room at the Lee County Courthouse on Wednesday, June 29, 1966, <br /> at 9:00 o'clock A.M. the same being the time,date and place specified in the call issued <br /> by the Chairman. Because of the large number of interested spectators, the meeting was <br /> moved to the courtroom. Those present were Chairman John E. Dotterer and Commissioners <br /> J. T. Ledwell, Max McLeod and Charles Robert Yow. Commissioner Sion H. Kelly was <br /> absent. Chairman John E. Dotterer presided and the following business was transacted: <br /> Chairman Dotterer announced that consideration of the budget was the first <br /> order of business and requested that the Clerk read the draft of the budget resolution. After <br /> the budget resolution was read, the chairman invited the members of the public who wished <br /> to comment upon the budget to come forward. Mr. W. E. Horner spoke in opposition to the <br /> tax rate of $1.30 per $100 valuation. Mr. Paul J. Barringer, Sr., Mr. Richard Shaw, <br /> Mr. T.J. Tarleton, Mr. P.K. Buchanan, Jr., Mr. Charles McBryde, Mr. Cyrus Womack, <br /> and Mr. Gordon Wicker also were recognized and spoke in opposition to the proposed rate. <br /> Chairman Dotterer reviewed the items which made the increase in the rate and <br /> recognized the chairmen of the school boards who spoke in support of their budget requests. <br /> In addition to Mr. J.R. Ingram and Mr. J. Glenn Edwards, the following persons spoke in <br /> behalf of the proposed budget: Mrs. Doris Betts, Mr. Douglas Wilkinson, Mrs. Ross Taylor, <br /> Mrs. T. Harvey Nicholson, Mrs. George R. Parrott, Mr. W.C. Harward and Mr. Jack Sopousek. <br /> It appearing that all parties who desired to speak had been heard, the Chairman <br /> declared that the floor was open for motions with respect to the budget. <br />
