M N1 BDDK 7 PAGE 347 MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS FOR THE COUNTY OF LEE, NORTH CAROLINA Monday, June 2, 1969 The regular meeting of the Board of Commissioners for the County of Lee, convened at 10 o'clock a. m., in the Commissioners' Room at the County Office Building at the corner of Steele and Wicker Streets in the City of Sanford. Those pre- sent were Commissioners William B. Joyce, Aubrey E. White, Frank- lin D. Wicker and Gordon A. Wicker. Chairman John E. Dotterer was absent, due to illness. Vice Chairman Franklin D. Wicker presided and the following business was transacted: The meeting was opened by prayer given by the Reverend Lowell A. Smoot of the Sanford Congregational Christian Church of the United Church of Christ. Vice Chairman Wicker advised the members of the Commission that the Lemon Springs Ruritan Club had invited the members of the Board of Commissioners to be its guest at its next regular meeting on the fourth Thursday, which is on June 26, 1969. Mr. J. Chandler Eakes, Register of Deeds, appeared before the Board and presented the budget request for his depart- ment. Mr. C. T. Fulkerson of the Sandhills Community Action Program (SCAP), appeared before the Board and gave infor- mation relating to OEO Programs which were available in this area. Mr. Jeff Hockaday, Superintendent of the Sanford City Board of Education Administrative Unit, appeared before the Board and reviewed the budget request for his department. The Board authorized use of two rooms on the fifth floor for storage by the Sanford City Board of Education. Upon motion made, sec- onded and duly adopted, it was RESOLVED to authorize the Sanford City Board of Education to use $45,000.00 from the appropriation of capital outlay for the fiscal year ending June 30, 1970, for the initial installment of a lease purchase agreement for sixteen (16) units of prefabricated metal class rooms. Mr. Leon Holder of Greenwood Township, appeared before the Board and presented a road petition for their consid- eration. Dr. Ben Brooks, Superintendent of the Lee County Board of Education, appeared before the Board and discussed and reviewed the budget request on behalf of the Lee County Board of Education Administrative Unit. The Board then considered the budget request and reviewed the request for each department and agency in detail. Mr. Harry Wicker, Director of Public Welfare, appeared before the Board and reviewed the budget request for his department.
