M <br />N1 <br />BDDK 7 PAGE 347 <br />MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF <br />THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS FOR THE <br />COUNTY OF LEE, NORTH CAROLINA <br />Monday, June 2, 1969 <br />The regular meeting of the Board of Commissioners <br />for the County of Lee, convened at 10 o'clock a. m., in the <br />Commissioners' Room at the County Office Building at the corner <br />of Steele and Wicker Streets in the City of Sanford. Those pre- <br />sent were Commissioners William B. Joyce, Aubrey E. White, Frank- <br />lin D. Wicker and Gordon A. Wicker. Chairman John E. Dotterer <br />was absent, due to illness. <br />Vice Chairman Franklin D. Wicker presided and the <br />following business was transacted: <br />The meeting was opened by prayer given by the <br />Reverend Lowell A. Smoot of the Sanford Congregational Christian <br />Church of the United Church of Christ. <br />Vice Chairman Wicker advised the members of the <br />Commission that the Lemon Springs Ruritan Club had invited the <br />members of the Board of Commissioners to be its guest at its <br />next regular meeting on the fourth Thursday, which is on June 26, <br />1969. <br />Mr. J. Chandler Eakes, Register of Deeds, appeared <br />before the Board and presented the budget request for his depart- <br />ment. <br />Mr. C. T. Fulkerson of the Sandhills Community <br />Action Program (SCAP), appeared before the Board and gave infor- <br />mation relating to OEO Programs which were available in this area. <br />Mr. Jeff Hockaday, Superintendent of the Sanford <br />City Board of Education Administrative Unit, appeared before the <br />Board and reviewed the budget request for his department. The <br />Board authorized use of two rooms on the fifth floor for storage <br />by the Sanford City Board of Education. Upon motion made, sec- <br />onded and duly adopted, it was RESOLVED to authorize the Sanford <br />City Board of Education to use $45,000.00 from the appropriation <br />of capital outlay for the fiscal year ending June 30, 1970, for <br />the initial installment of a lease purchase agreement for sixteen <br />(16) units of prefabricated metal class rooms. <br />Mr. Leon Holder of Greenwood Township, appeared <br />before the Board and presented a road petition for their consid- <br />eration. <br />Dr. Ben Brooks, Superintendent of the Lee County <br />Board of Education, appeared before the Board and discussed and <br />reviewed the budget request on behalf of the Lee County Board of <br />Education Administrative Unit. <br />The Board then considered the budget request and <br />reviewed the request for each department and agency in detail. <br />Mr. Harry Wicker, Director of Public Welfare, <br />appeared before the Board and reviewed the budget request for his <br />department. <br />
