boos ~a~~ ~5 <br />MINUTES OF THE ADJOURNED REGULAR <br />MEETING OF THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />FOR THE COUNTY OF LEE, NORTH CAROLINA <br />Monday, June 9, 1969 <br />The adjourned regular meeting of the Board of, <br />commissioners for the County of Lee, convened at 10 o'clock <br />a. m., in the Commissioners' Room in the County Office Building <br />at the corner of Steele and Wicker Streets in the City of Sanford. <br />Those present were'Chairman John E. Dotterer, Commissioners <br />William B. Joyce, Aubrey E. White, Franklin D. Wicker and Gordon <br />A. Wicker. <br />Chairman John E. Dotterer presided and the following <br />business was transacted: <br />The Community Shelter, Plan as preparedby the <br />Sanford-Lee County Civil Defense Department was reviewed and <br />considered and upon motion by Commissioner Aubrey E. White, <br />seconded by William B. Joyce, was unanimously approved upon a <br />vote. <br />The annual report of the Lee County Planning Board <br />was received and distributed to members of the Board along with <br />a copy of the proposed subdivision regulations. <br />Commissioner Franklin D. Wicker moved the adoptio>> <br />of the following resolution: <br />WHEREAS, it.has come to the attention <br />of the Board of Commissioners for Lee County, <br />North Carolina, that the Seaboard Coastline <br />Railroad Company proposes to discontinue <br />Trains No. 33 and 34 between Richmond, Virginia, <br />and Atlanta, Georgia; <br />AND WHEREAS, the Board of Commissioners <br />believe that such discontinuance would materially <br />affect the economy of this area and would impair <br />passenger travel in and out of this area. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS FOR THE COUNTY OF LEE <br />as follows: <br />1) That the Board opposes a discontinuance <br />of Seaboard Coastline Railroad Company Trains No. <br />33 and 34, which currently serve Lee County; <br />2) That the Attorney General of North <br />Carolina be requested to intervene or formally <br />complain to the proposed discontinuance of said <br />Trains;and <br />3) That a copy of this Resolution be <br />furnished to the Interstate Commerce Commission. <br />Commissioner Gordon A. Wicker seconded the motion <br />and upon a vote it was unanimously adopted. <br />
