BOOK 7 pAu 375 MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS FOR LEE COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA Tuesday, September 2nd, 1969 The Regular Meeting of the Board of Commissioners for the County of Lee, North Carolina, convened on Tuesday, September 2nd, 1969, at 10 o'clock a, m., in the Commissioners' Room of the County Office Building at the corner of Steele and Wicker Streets in the City of Sanford, Lee County, North Carolina. Those present were Chairman John E. Dotterer and Commissioners A. E. White, Perry White, Franklin D. Wicker and Gordon A. Wicker. None of the Commissioners were absent. Chairman John E. Dotterer presided and the following busin ess was transacted: The minutes of the Special Meeting held on August 22, 1969, were approved and ordered recorded. The Clerk reported that a notice of application for beer permit had been submitted by Mr. Clyde Atkins for the Atkins Grocery Store at the corner of Charlotte Avenue and Oakwood Street in the City of Sanford. Chairman reported that the Board of Social Services had requested an additional appropriation to cover their dues in the State Association. Upon motion of Commissioner Gordon A. Wicker, duly seconded by Commissioner A. E. White, it was RESOLVED to appropriate the sum of $100. 00 from the unappropriated surplus in the General Fund to the Budget for the Department of Social Services for the purpose of paying the dues of the County Board of Social Services in the State Association. The roll call vote was as follows: AYE: A. E. White, Perry White, Franklin D. Wicker, Gordon A. Wicker and Dr. John E. Dotterer NO: None The Chairman then opened bids for the purchase of the metal building known as the old Helms Motor Express building, located on the Wicker property purchased for the Hospital. The high bid was submitted by Mr. David Watson, at the price of $126. 00. The other bid was submitted by Mr. C. W. Forrest, in the amount of $100. 00. Commissioner A. E. White moved that the County accept the high bid of Mr. David Watson at the figure of $126. 00. The motion was duly seconded and upon a vote the resolution was unanimously adopted. Upon motion of Commissioner A. E. White, duly seconded by Commissioner Franklin D. Wicker, it was unanimously RESOLVED to request the State Highway Commissionto investigate the guard rails and safety devices on the road around Oldham's Lake in Clearwater Forest. Chairman Dotterer reported on themessage received from Chairman Harward of the County School Board, reporting that the merger committee did not have a report to make at this time.
