BOOK 7 PAAW <br />MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING <br />OF THE <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />FOR <br />LEE COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA <br />Monday, December 1st, 1969 <br />The regular meeting of the Board of Commissioners for Lee <br />County, convened at 10:00 A. M. on Monday, December 1 st, 1969, in the <br />Commissioners' Room of the County Office Building at the corner of Steele <br />and Wicker Streets in the City of Sanford. Those present were Chairman <br />John E. Dotterer and Commissioners Perry White, A. E. White, Franklin D. <br />Wicker and Gordon A. Wicker. None of the Commissioners was absent. <br />Chairman John E. Dotterer presided and the following business <br />was transacted: <br />The meeting was opened with a prayer given by Reverend William <br />T. Perkins of the Jonesboro Presbyterian Church. <br />The Chairman announced the first order of business was to re- <br />organize the Board as required by N. C. General Statute 153. 8. Commissioner <br />A. E. White moved that the present officers, namely Chairman John E. <br />Dotterer and Vice-Chairman Franklin D. Wicker, be re-elected. Commissioner <br />Gordon A. Wicker seconded the motion and upon a vote it was unanimously <br />adopted. <br />Miss Peggy J. Hussey, Social Work Supervisor I, in charge of <br />the Department of Social Services, appeared before the Board and requested the <br />authorization to establish and fill a position for an Eligibility Specialist in the <br />Department of Social Services. Miss Hussey stated federal regulations would <br />r require such a position as of July 1, 1970, and funds were available in the admin- <br />istrative budget to fill the vacancy now due to Director Harry Wicker's leave of <br />absence. Commissioner Gordon A. Wicker moved that the position of Eligibility <br />Specialist be established and the County Board of Social Services authorized to <br />employ a qualified person for such vacancy. <br />Miss Hussey reported to the Board that Mr. Garland W. Beale, <br />Jr. , had stated he desired to be replaced as a member of the County Board of <br />Social Services, effective January 1, 1970, Nd'replacement was made at this <br />time and the members were to bring recommendations to the January meeting. <br />Miss Hussey presented to the Board a copy of the NACO publication <br />entitled "The Issues" concerning the National Welfare Conference. <br />
