BOOK 7 PACE 4h <br />MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING <br />OF THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />FOR LEE COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA <br />MARCH 2ND, 1970 <br />The regular meeting of the Board of Commissioners for Lee <br />County, North Carolina, met in the Commissioner's room of the County Office <br />Building at the corner of Steele and Wicker Streets in the City of Sanford, at 10:00 <br />o'clock a. m., on Monday, March 2nd, 1970, the same being the hour, date and <br />place duly established for the holding of such meeting. The Chairman called the <br />meeting to order and on roll call, the following answered present: Perry White, <br />Franklin D. Wicker, Gordon A. Wicker and John E. Dotterer. <br />The Chairman declared a quorum present and the meeting open for <br />the transaction of business. <br />Chairman John E. Dotterer presided and the following business was <br />transacted: <br />Commissioner Perry White moved the adoption of the following <br />Resolution, which was read by the Clerk: <br />WHEREAS, AUBREY E. WHITE, a member of the <br />Board of Commissioners for Lee County, passed away on <br />February 27, 1970; and <br />WHEREAS, he was born in Chatham County, North <br />Carolina, on the 5th day of June, 1900; and <br />WHEREAS, he was a successful business man and <br />merchant having joined the Howard-Bobbitt Company in <br />1926 and attained the presidency of that firm and Progressive <br />Stores, Inc., in 1945, which position he retained until his <br />retirement in 1965, and thereafter, he accepted a position <br />as Vice President of The Carolina Bank; and <br />WHEREAS, AUBREY E. WHITE actively participated <br />in the life of his community by his service as a member of <br />the Board of Directors and a past president of the Sanford <br />Chamber of Commerce, a member and past President of the <br />Sanford Lions Club, a former director of the United Fund, a <br />past President of the North Carolina Fruit Produce Association, <br />a member of The Board of Stewards of the Steele Street Methodist <br />Church; and <br />WHEREAS, AUBREY E. WHITE served with distinction <br />as a member of the Board of Aldermen of the City of Sanford <br />from 1940 to 1951, as Mayor of the City of Sanford from 1951 <br />to 1953, and as a member of the Board of Commissioners for <br />Lee County from 1966 until the time of his passing; and <br />
