<br />PROCLAMATION
<br />HONORING FORMER COUNTY ATTORNEY
<br />KENNETH R. HOYLE, SR.
<br />WHEREAS;. Kenneth R. "Dick" Hoyle, Sr., was born on October 20, 1926, and passed away May 15, 2016,
<br />at the age of 89; and
<br />WHEREAS, Mr, Hoyle was raised in Lee County, graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel
<br />Hill in 1948, and 1951 with a Juris Doctor Degree; and,
<br />WHEREAS, Mr. Hoyle was a World War II veteran, served with the U.S. 8th Army from 1944 —1946, and
<br />later joined the. U.S. Army Reserves where he retired as a Major in the U.S. Army Judge Advocate Corps
<br />in 1986; and,
<br />WHEREAS, Mr. Hoyle began his legal practice, along with his brother, in 1951 at the firm of Hoyle & Hoyle,
<br />previously started _by his father and uncle, at which time he also served as the Assistant Solicitor for Lee
<br />County from 1952 —1958, and in 1953 became the town attorney for Broadway where he served until 1991;
<br />and,
<br />WHEREAS, Mr. Hoyle began his tenure as Lee County's County Attorney in 1960, where in 1992 he
<br />became the first full-time County Attorney, and,
<br />WHEREAS, Mr. Hoyle retired as County Attorney in January 2012 at which time he was inducted into the
<br />Order of the Long Leaf Pine in recognition for his 50 years of legal service to Lee County, and,
<br />WHEREAS, Mr. Hoyle served in other legal capacities as a Counselor for the 11th Judicial District to- the
<br />N.C. State Bar, President of the N.C. State Bar, served as a North Carolina delegate to the American Bar
<br />Association, President of the Lee County Bar Association and was inducted into the General Practice Hall
<br />of Fame; and,
<br />WHEREAS, Mr. Hoyle was recognized as a lawyer of special skill, a possessor of outstanding ethical
<br />standards, and was held in high esteem and reputation by his peers; and,
<br />WHEREAS, Mr. Hoyle also was the last surviving charter member of the Sanford Exchange Club, a member
<br />of the Sanford Area of Chamber of Commerce and served on the local board of First Citizens Bank, along
<br />.with being a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church where he shared teaching responsibilities of the
<br />Moffitt Bible Class, among serving on other numerous committees; and,
<br />WHEREAS, Mr. Hoyle is survived by his wife, Carmen, two daughters, one son, and five grandchildren,
<br />and will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
<br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Lee County Board of Commissioners hereby honors the
<br />memory of Kenneth R. "Dick" Hoyle, Sr. for a life of outstanding service, contribution and commendable
<br />leadership to his community.
