0 60 <br />BOOK i P'I'sG 506 <br />(ED <br />MINUTES OF THE REGULAR <br />MEETING OF THE BOARD OF <br />COMMISSIONERS FOR LEE <br />COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA <br />Monday, February 1, 1971 <br />The regular meeting of the Board of Commissioners for Lee County, <br />North Carolina, convened on Monday, February 1, 1971, in the Commissioners <br />Room of the County Office Building at the corner of Steele and Wicker Streets <br />in the City of Sanford. Those present were Commissioners William H. Cooper, <br />J. Eugene Rogers, Perry White, Gordon A.. Wicker and Franklin D. Wicker. <br />None of the Commissioners was missing. <br />Chairman Franklin D. Wicker presided and the following business was <br />transacted: <br />The Chairman presented data on cost sharing on the improvement <br />of the Upper Little River watershed for the information of the Commissioners. <br />The written report of the Chairman of the County Agricultural Extension <br />Service was distributed to the Commissioners. <br />The written report of the Tax Collector was distributed to the Comlri- <br />issioners and discussed. <br />The Chairman reported a letter of thanks had been received from the <br />Sandhills Area Development Committee for the County's participation in their pro- <br />gram. <br />The Chairman reported the terms of Mrs. John Maxwell and Dr. John <br />Dotterer on the Board of Trustees had expired. Commissioner William H. Cooper <br />moved that Mrs. John Maxwell and Dr. John E. Dotterer be appointed to the Board <br />of Trustees of the Lee County Library for the terms prescribed by law. Commiss- <br />ioner Rogers seconded the motion and upon a vote it was unanimously adopted. <br />Commissioner William H. Cooper moved the adoption of the following <br />resolution with respect to the roads near Jonesboro Middle School. <br />WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of <br />the County of Lee, has investigated the condition of the above <br />described road which is now a part of the system of roads main- <br />tained by the State Highway Commission, and which is indicated <br />in red on the attached map; and <br />WHEREAS, after careful consideration of the services <br />rendered by said road and the traffic demands of said county, it is <br />deemed necessary that said road be improved in order to better <br />serve the interests of the people of this county. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved, and the Board of <br />County Commissioners hereby approved and request that the State <br />Highway Commission make the following improvements in the <br />above described road: paved <br />Commissioner Gordon A. Wicker seconded the motion and upon a vote it <br />was unanimously adopted. <br />There was a discussion about the proposal for a sales tax for counties <br />but no formal action was taken. <br />
