eeoK p~~559 . ~f MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF LEE COUNTY BOARD,-OF COMMISSIONERS TUESDAY, JULY 6, 1971 The regular meeting of the Board of Commissioners for Lee County, North Carolina, met in the Commissioners' Room at the County Office Building at the corner of Steele and Wicker Streets in the City of Sanford at 10 o'clock A. M. on Tuesday, July 6, 1971, Monday, July 5th having been observed as a holiday. The Chairman called the meeting to order and on roll call the following answered "present": W. H. Cooper J. E. Rogers Perry White Gordon A. Wicker Franklin D. Wicker The Chairman declared a quorum present and the meeting opened for the trans- action of business. Chairman Wicker presides and the following business was transacted: The minutes of the meeting held on June 21, 1971, were approved and ordered recorded, upon motion of Commissioner White, seconded by Commissioner Rogers and unanimously adopted. Mr, James Clark, Tax Supervisor, appeared before the Board and discussed the possibility of establishing discounts in the event the General Assembly passes a new Machinery Act. Commissioner Rogers moved that the schedule for tax discounts previously established for Lee County by special legislation, be continued in full force and effect (that is, to say: 27, in July, 1-1/2TO in August and 1570 in September and no discount thereafter), in the event the General Assembly issued a new Machinery. Act at this session. Commissioner Gordon Wicker seconded the motion and upon a vote, it was unanimously adopted. Mr. James Clark, Tax Supervisor, appeared before the Board and explained the procedure for preparing and mailing tax statements. Commissioner William H. Cooper moved that Mr. Clark be authorized to secure and employ the necessary reasonable additional help in order to prepare and mail tax statements. Commissioner Gordon Wicker seconded the motion, and upon a vote, it was unanimously adopted. Upon motion of Commissioner W. H. Cooper, duly seconded by J. E. Rogers, it was unanimously resolved to appoint James L. Clark as the Tax Supervisor for Lee County for the period from July 1, 1971, until June 30, 1973, and until his successor is appointed and qualified. Mr. Clark thereafter took and subscribed the oath of office before Grace Crabtree, Assistant Clerk of Superior Court, and a'copy of his oath was filed with the Clerk to the Board and with the Clerk of Superior Court. Commissioner W. I-1. Cooper presented a petition requesting the addition of the old Buffalo Road to the State maintained secondary road system. After examination of the Petition and discussion by the Board, Comnussioner Cooper moved the adoption of the following RESOLUTION: "WHEREAS, the attached petition has been filed with the Board of County Commissioners of the County of Lee requesting that the above described road, the'location of which has been indicated in red on the attached map, be added to the Secondary Road System; and "WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners iS of the opinion that the above I
