eeoK p~~559 . <br />~f MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF <br />LEE COUNTY BOARD,-OF COMMISSIONERS <br />TUESDAY, JULY 6, 1971 <br />The regular meeting of the Board of Commissioners for Lee County, <br />North Carolina, met in the Commissioners' Room at the County Office Building <br />at the corner of Steele and Wicker Streets in the City of Sanford at 10 o'clock <br />A. M. on Tuesday, July 6, 1971, Monday, July 5th having been observed as a <br />holiday. <br />The Chairman called the meeting to order and on roll call the <br />following answered "present": <br />W. H. Cooper J. E. Rogers Perry White <br />Gordon A. Wicker Franklin D. Wicker <br />The Chairman declared a quorum present and the meeting opened for the trans- <br />action of business. Chairman Wicker presides and the following business was <br />transacted: <br />The minutes of the meeting held on June 21, 1971, were approved <br />and ordered recorded, upon motion of Commissioner White, seconded by <br />Commissioner Rogers and unanimously adopted. <br />Mr, James Clark, Tax Supervisor, appeared before the Board <br />and discussed the possibility of establishing discounts in the event the General <br />Assembly passes a new Machinery Act. Commissioner Rogers moved that the <br />schedule for tax discounts previously established for Lee County by special <br />legislation, be continued in full force and effect (that is, to say: 27, in July, <br />1-1/2TO in August and 1570 in September and no discount thereafter), in the event <br />the General Assembly issued a new Machinery. Act at this session. Commissioner <br />Gordon Wicker seconded the motion and upon a vote, it was unanimously adopted. <br />Mr. James Clark, Tax Supervisor, appeared before the Board and <br />explained the procedure for preparing and mailing tax statements. Commissioner <br />William H. Cooper moved that Mr. Clark be authorized to secure and employ the <br />necessary reasonable additional help in order to prepare and mail tax statements. <br />Commissioner Gordon Wicker seconded the motion, and upon a vote, it was <br />unanimously adopted. Upon motion of Commissioner W. H. Cooper, duly seconded <br />by J. E. Rogers, it was unanimously resolved to appoint James L. Clark as the <br />Tax Supervisor for Lee County for the period from July 1, 1971, until June 30, <br />1973, and until his successor is appointed and qualified. Mr. Clark thereafter took <br />and subscribed the oath of office before Grace Crabtree, Assistant Clerk of <br />Superior Court, and a'copy of his oath was filed with the Clerk to the Board and <br />with the Clerk of Superior Court. <br />Commissioner W. I-1. Cooper presented a petition requesting the <br />addition of the old Buffalo Road to the State maintained secondary road system. <br />After examination of the Petition and discussion by the Board, Comnussioner Cooper <br />moved the adoption of the following RESOLUTION: <br />"WHEREAS, the attached petition has been filed with the Board of County <br />Commissioners of the County of Lee requesting that the above described road, <br />the'location of which has been indicated in red on the attached map, be added <br />to the Secondary Road System; and <br />"WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners iS of the opinion that the above <br />I <br />
