y <br />MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING <br />OF THE <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />FOR <br />_ LEE COUNTY <br />Monday, January 17, 1972 <br />The regular meeting of the Board of Commissioners for the County <br />of Lee,, State of North Carolina, convened on Monday, January 17, 1972, at <br />ten o'clock a, m, in the Commissioners' room, second floor, County Office <br />Building, corner of Steele and Wicker Streets,, Sanford, North Carolina. Those <br />present were: Commissioners J. Eugene Rogers,. Perry White, Gordon A. Wicker <br />and Franklin D. Wicker. Commissioner William H. Cooper was absent. <br />Chairman Franklin D. Wicker presided and the following business was <br />transacted: <br />The meeting was opened by prayer given by Commissioner Perry White. <br />The minutes of the meeting held on January 3, 1972, were approved and <br />ordered recorded. <br />Mr. Billy Ray Cameron,. Civil Defense Director, and Commissioner <br />Gordon A. Wicker, reported on the meeting held in Raleigh on the preceding <br />Friday on Farm Home Administration participation in County water and sewer <br />projects. <br />Commissioner Gordon A. Wicker requested Superintendent Hugh Brewer <br />to report on the electrical service at the County's gasoline dispensing facility. <br />The Chairman then proceeded to open the bids received for ambulances. <br />The bids were publicly opened and read. The bids were as follows: <br />The Challenger Corporation (1971) $ 13, 931.00 <br />Superior Coach Company 14, 098. 15 <br />Mobile Conversion Company 14, 858.00 <br />The Challenger Corporation (1972) 15, 106.00 <br />The bid of Crain-Garage M-M Sales was exam ned and found not to be <br />in conformity with the specifications. The representatives of Superior Coach <br />Company and Crain-Garage M-M Sales were heard. Commissioner Perry White moved <br />the low bid of The Challenger Corporation in the-amount of $13, 931.00 be accepted <br />and the sum of $7,200.00 be appropriated from the unappropriated surplus in the <br />General Fund to the Ambulance Service for the purpose of purchasing the ambulance. <br />Commissioner J. Eugene Rogers seconded the motion and upon a vote it was adopted <br />upon a roll call vote as follows: <br />Aye: Rogers, White, G. Wicker, F. Wicker <br />Absent: Cooper <br />Niy: None <br />There was a discussion about the recreational program for senior <br />citizens and Commissioner Gordon Wicker moved that the sum of $500.00 be <br />appropriated from the unappropriated surplus in the general fund to the Mental <br />Health Department to institute a recreational program for senior citizens. <br />Commissioner Perry White seconded the motion and upon a roll call vote it was <br />adopted as follows: <br />Aye: Rogers, White, <br />Absent: Cooper <br />Nay: None <br />G. Wicker, F. Wicker <br />
