4tl Wave 117 <br />MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS FOR LEE COUNTY <br />NORTH CAROLINA <br />Monday, February 7, 1972 <br />The regular meeting of the Board of Commissioners for Lee <br />County, North Carolina, convened on Monday, February 7, 1972, in the <br />Commissioners' Room of the County Office Building, at the corner of Steele <br />and Wicker Streets in the City of Sanford. Those present were: Commiss- <br />ioners William H.. Cooper, J. Eugene Rogers, Perry White, Gordon A. <br />Wicker and Franklin D. Wicker, None of the Commissioners was missing. <br />Chairman Franklin D. Wicker presided and the following <br />business was transacted: <br />The meeting was opened by prayer given by Mr. Gilbert <br />Matthews, of Greenwood Township, Lee County. <br />The Chairman stated that the first item of business was <br />consideration of a resolution creating a Recreation Commission and the <br />appointment of the members of that Commission if the resolution was <br />adopted.. Commissioner Perry White moved the adoption of the following <br />resolution with respect to the creation of a recreation commission for Lee <br />County: <br />WHEREAS, by virtue of Article 12 of Chapter 160 of the <br />General Statutes of North Carolina, the lack of adequate recreation <br />programs and facilities has been declared as a matter of public policy <br />to be a menace to the morals, happiness and welfare of the people in <br />this State; and <br />WHEREAS, in its considered judgment, the Board of Commiss- <br />ioners for the County of Lee believes that adequate recreation programs <br />and facilities can best be advanced by placing the recreation system under <br />the supervision and direction of a Recreation Commission as authorized <br />by Section 160-160 of the General Statutes: , . <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Comm- <br />issioners for the County of Lee: <br />Section 1. , That there is hereby created a commission to be <br />known as the Recreation Commission of LEE COUNTY, <br />Section 2. The Recreation Commission shall be appointed by the <br />Board of Commissioners for Lee County and shall, consist of nine (9) <br />members. One of the-nine rimay be a meimber'of'the Board of Commissioners <br />to serve as ex-officio member of the Recreation. Commission with the same <br />powers and duties as;the other. eight members', `or they may appoint nine <br />persons none of whom are members' of the foard'of Commissioners. The <br />original appointments shall be for terms as follows: three members for terms <br />expiring June. 30, 1973; three, members.for terms expiring June 30, 1974; <br />
