MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING <br />OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br />FOR LEE COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA <br />Monday, March 6, 1972 <br />The regular meeting of the Board of Commissioners for Lee <br />County, North Carolina, convened on Monday, March 6, 1972, in the <br />Commissioners' Room of the County Office Building, at the corner of <br />Steele and Wicker Streets in the City of Sanford. Those present were: <br />Commissioners William H. Cooper, J. Eugene Rogers, Perry White, <br />Gordon A. Wicker, and Franklin D. Wicker. None of the Commissioners <br />was absent. <br />I <br />Chairman Franklin D. Wicker presided and the following <br />business was transacted: <br />Mr. James E. Heins, Co-Chairmanlof the Recreation Commission <br />and Mr. Sonny Baker, Director of the Sanford Recreation Commission, appeared <br />before the Board and discussed the proposed offeri of land for a park in the Kendale <br />area near Jonesboro Heights. There was an extended discussion and the matter <br />was referred to the Recreation Commission. <br />Commissioner Cooper moved the ado Iption of the following resolution <br />with respect to the operations of the recreation program: <br />RESOLVED that the recommendation of the Recreation <br />Commission be obtained before property for its use be acquired <br />or disposed of. <br />Commissioner Rogers seconded the motion and upon a vote it was <br />unanimously adopted. <br />Reverend James Redling appeared and invoked the blessings of <br />Almighty God upon those present and their endeavors. <br />The minutes of the meeting held on February 21, 1972, were <br />approved and ordered recorded upon motion of Commissioner Rogers, seconded <br />by Commissioner Gordon Wicker, and. unanimously adopted. <br />The monthly bills as listed by the County Accountant were considered, <br />amended, and as amended were approved for payment by aunanimous vote upon <br />motion by Commissioner Rogers, seconded by Commissioner White. <br />I <br />The Clerk reported the State Board of Assessment had approved <br />the tax discount schedule and notice of the schedulel had been duly published. <br />I <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Rogers; duly seconded by Commissioner <br />Cooper, it was unanimously resolved to extend until March 17, 1972, the time <br />for listing property for taxation without penalty. <br />The request of the Clerk of Superior Court for two desks and two <br />chairs for the Solicitor's office and the Magistrate' Is office at the Courthouse <br />were presented to the Board. Upon motion of Commissioner Cooper, duly <br />seconded, it was resolved to authorize Chairman Wicker and Commissioner Rogers <br />to purchase the necessary furniture. <br />
