M. , in the Commissioners' Room on the second floor of the
County Office Building at the corner of Steele Street and Wicker Street in
the City of Sanford. Monday, April 3, 1972, the normal meeting day was
Easter Monday and a public holiday. Those present when the meeting opened
were Commissioners William H. Cooper, Perry White, Gordon A. Wicker and
Chairman Franklin D. Wicker. Commissioner J._ Eugene Rogers was absent.
Chairman Franklin D. Wicker presided and the following business
was transacted:
Mr. James L. Clark, Tax Supervisor, appeared before the
Board and presented the written request of The Coca Cola Company, Atlanta,
Georgia, for relief of the penalties on taxes levied on advertising signs located
in Lee County. Tax bills had been prepared in accord-
ance with these values and penalties included. Commissioner William H.
Cooper moved that The Coca Cola Company be relieved of the penalties on the
tax statements since the failure to list had been inadvertant rather than deliberate.
Commissioner Gordon A. Wicker seconded the motion and upon a roll call vote,
Messrs, Cooper, White, G. Wicker, and F. Wicker all voted for it and no one
voted against it.
Commissioner J. Eugene Rogers joined the meeting and participated
in the further deliberations of the Board.
Commissioner William H. Cooper presented a road petition re-
questing that SR 1140 in Greenwood Township be paved between SR 1144 and
U. S. Highway No. 421. Commissioner Cooper then moved the adoption of
the following resolution:
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of the
County of Lee has investigated the condition of the above
described road which is now a part of the system of roads
maintained by the State Highway Commission, and which is indicated
in red on the attached map; and
WHEREAS, after careful consideration of the services
rendered by said road and the traffic demands of said
County, it is deemed necessary that said road be improved
in order to better serve the interests of the people of this
county.
NOW, :THEREFORE,, be it resolved, and the Board of
e
a fCounty."Commissioners hereby approved and request that
the State Highway Commission make the following improve-
mentstin the above described road: Paved.
Commissioner Gordon A.
