BOOK 8 PACE D8 0 <br />MINUTES OF THE ADJOURNED MEETING OF THE <br />BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br />FOR LEE COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA <br />Monday, October 16, 1972 <br /> <br />The regular meeting of the Board of Commissioners for Lee <br />County, North Carolina, convened on Monday, October 16, 1972, in the <br />Commissioners' Room of the County Office Building, at the corner of Steele <br />and Wicker Streets in the City of Sanford, in accordance with the motion <br />of adjournment. Those present were: Commissioners J. Eugene Rogers, Perry <br />White, Gordon A. Wicker, and Chairman Franklin D. Wicker. Commissioner <br />W. H. Cooper was absent. County Manager Robert Harris was present. <br />Chairman Franklin D. Wicker presided, and the following business was transacted: <br />The minutes of the regular meeting held on October 2, 1972, <br />were approved and ordered recorded. <br />The County Manager reported that Industrial Drive Extension <br />had been added to the State's system of Secondary Roads, according to letter <br />received from the State Highway Commission. <br />The Chairman announced that a public hearing would be held on a <br />closing of a portion of Gunter Street, in accordance with the notice published in <br />the Sanford Herald. No one appeared in opposition to the closing of said street, <br />and Mr. Harry Thomas and his attorney, Mr. Gerald Shaw appeared and <br />requested that the portion of the street be closed. Commissioner J. Eugene <br />Rogers moved the adoption of the following Resolution: <br />WHEREAS the Lee County Board of Commissioners at its <br />regular meeting on September 5, 1972 duly passed a Resolution <br />providing for a hearing on October 16, 1972, at 10:00 a, m, pursuant <br />to the provisions of N. C. GS 153-9(17) to make inquiry into the <br />question of whether the closing of that portion of Gunter Street <br />extending northwardly from the intersection of Gunter Street and <br />Winfield Street and abutting Lots Nos. 1 through 14 of Block 5 and <br />Block 1 as shown on map recorded in Map Book 3, page 111, Lee <br />County Registry, would be contrary to the public interest or deprive <br />any individual owning property in the vicinity of said roadway of a <br />reasonable means of ingress and egress. <br />AND WHEREAS said Resolution directed that notice of said <br />hearing be published as required by GS 153-9(17); AND WHEREAS <br />said notice was duly published on September 13, 20, 27 and October <br />4, 1972, setting forth the time,place and purpose of the hearing <br />as appears from the affidavit of the publisher filed with the Board; <br />AND WHEREAS it further appears that the only party owning <br />property adjoining the said portion of Gunter Street other than the <br />petitioner, Harry Thomas Lumber Company, has been duly served <br />by Registered Mail with notice of the time, place and purpose of <br />the aforesaid hearing; <br />AND WHEREAS the matter came on for hearing as scheduled <br />at the regular meeting of the Board on October 16, 1972, at which <br />time no one appeared and offered any objection or opposed the <br />closing of that portion of Gunter Street which extends northwardly <br />from the intersection of Gunter Street and Winfield Street, abutting <br />Lots Nos. 1 through 14 of Block 5 and Block 1 as shown on map <br />recorded in Map Book 3, page 111, Lee County Registry; AND WHEREAS <br />the Board, after considering the matter, established to its satisfaction <br />and found as facts: <br />
