la
st
MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF
THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS FOR LEE
COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA
Monday, January 2nd, 1973
The regular meeting of the Board of Commissioners for Lee
County, North Carolina, convened in the Commissioners' Room on the
second floor of the County Office Building at the corner of Steele and
Wicker Streets in the City of Sanford, at 9:30 o'clock a. m., on Tuesday,
January 2nd, 1973, the regular meeting day, Monday, the 1 st of January,
being a legal holiday.
Commissioners William H. Cooper, Hal L. Hancock, J. Eugene
Rogers, Franklin D. Wicker and Gordon A. Wicker were all present. Chair-
man Gordon A. Wicker presided and the following business was transacted:
Mrs. James K. Draper, who resides in the Cool Springs Estates
Subdivision in West Sanford Township, appeared before the Board and complained
that the developer, Mr. Gladden, was building apartments in the Subdivision
which had heretofore consisted solely of family residences. She was advised that
since there was no zoning ordinance, there was no action the Board of Comm-
issioners could take as long as the builder complied with the State Building Code
and regulations of the District Health.Department.
Mr. Leon Holder of Greenwood Township appeared before the
Board and complained that the State Highway Commission re-located a secondary
road in 1936 and by reason of such re-location, he was denied access to the
public highway. Mr. Holder was advised that the Board had previously
approved adding the section of road which was abandoned back to the State
Maintained System if the State Highway Commission were willing to take it
over for maintenance. It was suggested that he again contact the State Highway
Commission representatives since the Commissioners had afforded him all of
the relief that it was in their power to grant.
The written report of D. F. Holder, Sheriff, was presented to the
Board. "
The written report of Mr. Nathan Crissman, Tax Collector, was
presented to the Board.
Mr.: Tom Haislip, County Agricultural Extension Chairman,
appeared before':the Board aind expressed appreciation for the recognition
which was afforded to him and to Miss Mary Estelle Doyle, Home Economist,
and extended an invitation for the Board to meet with the Extension people for
a supper on January 15th, at 6 o'clock p.. m. '
The monthly bills as listed by the County Accountant were dis-
tributed and discussed. The bills as listed were approved with the exception
of oil company bills and these bills were approved for payment for heating oil
at the rate of 15. 9 cents per gallon, upon motion of Commissioner Cooper,
seconded by Commissioner Hancock, which motion was unanimously adopted.
