6iSbf~ & 222 <br />MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF <br />THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS FOR LEE <br />COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA <br />Monday, June 4th, 1973 <br />The regular meeting of the Board of Commissioners for the <br />County of Lee, State of North Carolina, convened in the Commissioners' Room, <br />on he second floor of the County Office Building at the corner of Steele and <br />Wicker Streets in the City of Sanford, at 9:30 o'clock a. m., on Monday, June <br />4th, 1973. Commissioners William H. Cooper, Hal L. Hancock, J. Eugene <br />Rogers, Franklin D. Wicker and Gordon A. Wicker were present. Chairman <br />Gordon A. Wicker presided and the following business was transacted: <br />The meeting was opened by prayer given by Reverend Clyde <br />Johnson of the Broadway Baptist Church. <br />The minutes of the meeting held on May 21st, 1973, were <br />approved and ordered recorded. <br />Commissioner Hancock brought up for discussion the question <br />of whether or not a section of U. S. Highway No. 1 which had been abandoned was <br />still part of the State System, and what could be done about having it added to the <br />System if it had been eliminated from the State Maintained System. <br />The Chairman read a letter from Mrs. James K. Draper of <br />Cool Springs Estates Subdivision complaining about the commercial development <br />of the property. It appearing that her complaint was about a private matter, no <br />action was taken and the letter was referred to the County Attorney for reply. <br />The written report of D. F. Holder,. Sheriff of Lee County, <br />was presented to the Board. <br />The written report of the Agricultural Extension Service was <br />presented to the Board. <br />The written report of the Sanford Coca-Cola Bottling Company, <br />Inc. , for the refund of $96. 24 for taxes paid on equipment which was also listed <br />by the Coca-Cola Bottling Company of Atlanta was presented to the Board. James <br />L. Clark, County Tax Supervisor certified to the Board that the refund was in order, <br />that the equipment had been doubled listed and taxes paid by two concerns. Upon <br />motion made, seconded, it was RESOLVED to refund the amount of $96.24, to the <br />Sanford Coca-Cola Bottling Company, Inc. , for property doubled listed for taxation <br />and the County Tax Collector was authorized and directed to make said refund. <br />Messrs. Cooper, Hancock, Rogers, F. Wicker and G., Wicker, all voted for the <br />resolution and no one voted against it. <br />The Chairman brought up for discussion the appointments <br />which needed to be made by the Board. It was originally considered that this <br />matter be deferred until the meeting on the third Monday in June;' however, the <br />Board then took up and made the following appointments: <br />
