BOOK 8 ?Acf 237 <br />MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF <br />THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS FOR <br />LEE COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA <br />Monday, July 2, 1973 <br /> <br />The regular meeting of the Board of Commissioners for <br />Lee County, North_Carolina, convened in the Commissioner's Room <br />on the second floor of the County Office Building at the corner <br />of Steele and Wicker Streets in Sanford, North Carolina, at <br />9:30 o'clock A. M., on Monday, July 2, 1973• Chairman Gordon <br />A. Wicker and Commissioners William H. Cooper, Hal L. Hancock, <br />J. Eugene Rogers, and Franklin D. Wicker were present. The <br />Chairman declared that a quorum was present and the meeting <br />was open for the transaction of business. <br />Chairman Gordon A. Wicker presided and the following <br />business was transacted: <br />Commissioner William H. Cooper reported that he had <br />received communication from the Sanford Jaycees requesting <br />information concerning permission to plant trees and shrubbery <br />along the right of way of U. S. Highway 421. It was decided to <br />refer this matter to Mr. Beck, State Highway Commission Engineer, <br />when he visited the Board on this date. <br />The Chairman reported that Mr. Ralph Lassen with the <br />Community Planning Department had advised him that if the county <br />could increase its appropriations by $300, it was believed that <br />a grant could be obtained to renew the planning program in Lee <br />County. The Board also discussed the advisability of <br />reactivating the Planning Commission but no formal action was <br />taken. <br />The Chairman called the Board's attention to the fact <br />that pursuant to N. C. G. S. 105-294, the Board needed to appoint <br />
