BOOK O PAG[2p1 <br />MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING <br />OF THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />FOR LEE COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA <br />Monday, October 1st, 1973 <br />The regular meeting of the Board of Commissioners for Lee <br />County, convened in the Commissioners' Room of the County Office Building, at <br />the corner of Steele and Wicker Streets in Sanford, North Carolina, at9:30 <br />o'clock a. m., on Monday, October 1st, 1973. Those present were Commissioners <br />Hal L. Hancock, J. Eugene Rogers, FranklinD. Wicker and Gordon A. Wicker. <br />Commissioner William H. Cooper was absent. The Chairman declared a quorum <br />present, and the meeting opened for business. <br />Chairman Gordon A. Wicker presided and the following bus- <br />iness was transacted: <br />The invocation was given by the Reverend James P. Sample, <br />Pastor of the St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, located in Greenwood Township, <br />Route 6, Sanford, North Carolina. <br />The minutes of the meeting held on Monday, September 17, 1973, <br />were approved and ordered recorded. <br />Mr. Tom Haislip and Mrs. Faye Lewallen, appeared before <br />the Board and Mr. Haislip introduced Mrs. Lewallen as the new Home Economist. <br />Mr. Paul Godfrey, a resident of Greenwood Township, appeared <br />before the Board and requested that the Board sell him a portion of the Sanitary <br />Landfill site, which adjoins land owned by Mr. Godfrey. The matter was taken <br />under advisement. <br />Mr. Willie Spivey appeared before the Board and when it <br />appeared that the matter which he wished to introduce pertained to Secondary Road <br />No. 1314, he was requested to return at 11 o'clock, when representatives from <br />the Maintenance Department of the State Highway Commission, would be present. <br />The Board read a letter from a Commissioner William G. <br />Brinkley, of the Surry County Board of Commissioners, requesting their cooperation <br />in changing the discount period in payment of ad valorem taxes. <br />The Board was of the opinion that the present statute was ade- <br />quate and proper and declined to take any action on Commissioner Brinkley's <br />letter. <br />The Board then proceeded. to have the County's architects open <br />the bids for the construction of the addition to the Health Center on Woodland <br />Avenue.
