Boos AE6(~ <br />MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING <br />OF <br />THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />FOR <br />THE COUNTY OF., LEE,. NORTH CAROLINA. <br />Monday,. March.1.5,- 1976 <br />The regular meeting of the Board of Commissioners for'Lee County, <br />North Carolina, convened in the Commissioners Room of the'Courity Office Building, <br />200 Wicker Street, Sanford, North Carolina, at 7:30 o'clock p, m., on Monday, March <br />15, 1976. Those.present when the meeting opened were Commissioners William H. <br />Cooper, Hal L. Hancock, Franklin D. Wicker and Gordon A. Wicker. Commissioner <br />John E. Dotterer was absent when the meeting opened. <br />transacted: <br />Chairman Gordon A. Wicker presided and the following business was <br />Mr. Robert L. Shaw, appeared on behalf of the Sanford Chamber of <br />Commerce and requested that the County institute an emergency phone service whereby <br />\ all persons could call the operator and state it was an emergency and the operator would <br />I connect them with the Sanford Police Department. Mr. Shaw said that the Police Depart- <br />ulil ment of the City of Sanford had agreed to roan the service and notify the affected public <br />agency upon the receipt of such a call. The matter was taken under advisement. <br />Mr. Jim Coates appeared before the Board and requested interfund <br />transfers to pay for a Housing' Counsellor Service. After discussion, Commissioner <br />Franklin D. Wicker moved that the sum of $734. 00 be transferred from the line item <br />of the Lee County Industries to the line item for-salaries and administrative expense <br />and that the sum of $734. 00 be transferred from.the line item for the Community Develop- <br />ment to the line item for salaries and administrative expense, all within the budget for <br />the Social Services Department for the funding of a Housing Counseling Service. Comm- <br />issioner Hal L„ Hancock seconded the motion and upon a roll call vote, Commissioners <br />Cooper, Hancock, Franklin D. Wicker and Gordon A. Wicker,,_all voted for it and no one <br />voted against it. <br />The Board next took under consideration a request by the Sheriff's Depart- <br />ment for LEAA funds.' During a. discussion of the resolution, Commissioner John E. <br />Dotterer joined the meeting and participated in the further deliberations of the Board. <br />Commissioner *Franklin D. Wicker moved the adoption of the-following resolution: <br />WHEREAS, the Lee County Board of Commissioners <br />herein called the "Applicant" has thoroughly considered the problem <br />addressed in the subgrant application entitled Sheriff's Dept. One <br />Deputy and has reviewed the project described in the application; and <br />WHEREAS, under the terms of Public Law 90-351, as <br />amended, the United States of America has authorized the'Law <br />Enforcement.Assistance Administration, through the North Carolina <br />Division of Law and Order to make federal grants to assist local <br />governments in the improvement of'the criminal justice system. <br />NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE <br />LEE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS, IN OPEN MEETING <br />ASSEMBLED IN THE CITY OFSANFORD, NORTH CAROLINA, <br />THIS 15TH DAY OF MARCH, 1976, AS FOLLOWS: <br />
