i <br />' ;~tix rs t.. - <br />MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING <br />OF <br />THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />FOR <br />THE COUNTY OF LEE, NORTH CAROLINA <br />Monday,. June 7, 1976' <br />The regular meeting of the Board of Commissioners' for Lee County, <br />North Carolina, convened in the Commissioners Room in the County Office <br />Building, 200 Wicker Street, Sanford, North Carolina, at 9:30 o'clock. a, m., <br />on Monday, June, 7, 1976. Those present were Commissioners William H. <br />Cooper, John E. Dotterer, Hal L; Hancock, and Gordon A, Wicker. Comm- <br />issioner'Franklin D. Wicker was absent when the meeting opened. <br />The minutes of the meeting'held:on May 17, 1976, were considered and <br />upon motion of Commissioner Hancock, dul"y seconded by,`Conimissioner Cooper, <br />were unanimously adopted upon a vde and ordered, recorded; <br />Commissioner Hal L; Hancock repo; ted' that tthe' improvements ,on the <br />Secondary Road known as the George Hancock"road in'Gr6enwood•Township, <br />had been completed and the road was open for travel. <br />Chairman Gordon A. Wicker reported he had received a letter from Douglas <br />D. Smith,• Traffic'Manager,' furriitu•re division of Singe'rJndustries'and Mr. Smith <br />objected to the proposal of the Seaboard Coast Line Railrsad.t'o close the freight <br />station.' <br />Chairman Gordon A: Wicker' read a request from the Board of Social <br />Services requesting'authority to transfer $10, 000, 00'from the fund for aid to <br />families of dependent children to the administrative fund.. This transfer is <br />necessary to cover-the additional costs for eligibility specialist in the Food Stamp <br />Program and other personnel expenses. Commissioner William H. Cooper <br />moved that the Board of Social Services .be.authorized'to transfer the sum of <br />$10, 000. 00 from the aid to families for dependent fund, to the Administrative Fund. <br />Commissioner Hal,L,`Hancock seconded the motion and upon a vote, Commissioner <br />Cooper, Dotterer, Hancock and Gordon' Wicker all voted for it and no one voted <br />against it. <br />Chairman Gordon A...Wicker read a letter from the Regional Director of <br />Social Services inquiring whether or not Lee County would be interested in merging <br />its Social Services with that csf.Chatham County. After'discussion, Commissioner <br />William H. Cooper moved that'the Board decline the opportunity to,merge the . <br />Social Services Department with that of Chatham County. Commissioner Hal L. <br />Hancock seconded the motion and upon a vote it was unanimously adopted, <br />Commissioner Franklin D. Wicker, joined the meeting and participated in the <br />further, deliberations of the Board. <br />,r , <br />
