<br />and Gordon A. Wicker, , Commissioner Franklin D. Wicker was absent

<br />was transacted:

<br />`Reverend S. L,. McKay of.the'Broadway, Presbyterian Church opened
<br />the meeting with a prayer:
<br />The, minutes of the'meeting held on"September'7, 1976, were reviewed,
<br />corrected, and-then approved. for~recordatioii, by motion-of Commissioner`William
<br />H. Cooper,. seconded by Commissioner Hal, L. Hancock;~ which motion was unanimous-
<br />'ly adopted. .
<br />Commissioner William H. Cooper, advised•the Board He thought it
<br />advisable.to make application for'matching funds. to purchase two ambulances
<br />rather than just one, and requested'authority'to make s uch.appli cation. :Commissioner
<br />Cooper moved the adoption of the. following:
<br />WHEREAS,: the Board of Commissioners
<br />for'Lee County, herein called,the "Applicant'! has thoroughly
<br />c?nsidered the 'problem addressed in the application entitled
<br />Emergency Medical Services :and has reviewed the project
<br />described in the application;, and:
<br />WHEREAS, under the,terms of Public Law
<br />89-564, as amended, the United States of America has author-
<br />i'zed the -Department of Transportation, through the North
<br />Carolina. Governor's Highway Safety Program to make'federal
<br />grants to assist local. governments in the'improvement of high-
<br />way safety:
<br />NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED'BY THE
<br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS FOR.LEE COUNTY IN OPEN
<br />MEETING ASSEMBLED IN THE CITY OF SANFORD, NORTH
<br />CAROLINA, THIS 20TH DAY OF SEPTEMBER;1976,: AS FOLLOWS:
<br />1.' That the project referenced above is.,`nthe best: interest of the
<br />Applicant and the general public.
<br />2, That Beatrice Fields, Finance Officer,' be authorized to'file,
<br />in behalf of the Applicant, an application in the form prescribed
<br />by the''Governor's Highway Safety Program for federal funding in
<br />the am,runt of $17,000.00, to be made to the.Applicant to assist
<br />in defraying the cost of the project described in the application.
