X01 <br />LEE COUNTY <br />Committed Today for a Better Tomorrow <br />Resolution by Lee County Board of Commissioners <br />Requesting the Board of Transportation <br />to Name a Portion of the 421 By -Pass <br />from US 1 to the Merge at Cumnock Near the Deep River <br />WHEREAS, the late Don Buie, was a life -long conservationist living in Lee County; and <br />WHEREAS, Don Buie was an admirer and naturalist of the Deep River region for many years; and <br />WHEREAS, Don Buie was a strong advocate of the preservation of all natural resources and wildlife, <br />especially in the state of North Carolina; and <br />WHEREAS, Don Buie was a dedicated leader for many years of youth and strived to advance youth <br />skills in all areas, especially in scholarly education and in the North Carolina Wildlife Commission's <br />Youth Hunter Safety Program; and <br />WHEREAS, Don Buie, a committed Christian and Certified Lay Pastor, for many years spoke at <br />churches throughout Lee County, admonishing all hearers toward a good and successful life; and <br />WHEREAS, Don Buie was a faculty member and leader of Central Carolina Community College; and <br />WHEREAS, Don Buie was a member and leader of the Lee County Wildlife Club who led the group in <br />outreach to the community in a number of effective programs; and <br />WHEREAS, Don Buie was a leader in the Central Carolina Paddlers, a canoeing group that led the <br />region in river expeditions along Carolina rivers; and <br />WHEREAS, Don Buie was a collector of books, documents and other paraphernalia relating to the <br />history of the region, and often spoke to various groups concerning events and people involving the <br />early settlers of the area, the industrial development along rivers of North Carolina, and the American <br />Revolutionary War and Civil War. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Lee County Board of Commissioners does hereby <br />request that the Board of Transportation name the portion of the 421 by -pass north from US 1 to <br />Cumnock merge with US 1, the DON BUIE HIGHWAY. <br />Adopted this 4th day of November 2013. <br />Charles T.
