J <br />BOOK PACE 388 <br />ADJOURNED REGULAR MEETING OF THE <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS FOR THE <br />COUNTY OF LEE <br />Monday, November 17, 1969 <br />The Adjourned Regular Meeting of the Board of Commissioners <br />of the County of Lee, was held on Monday, November 17, 1969, at the County <br />Office Building, at the corner of Steele and Wicker Streets, in the City of <br />Sanford, North Carolina, in the Commissioners' Room, at 10:00 o'clock a. m., <br />in accordance with the motion of adjournment. Those present were Chairman <br />John E. Dotterer and Commissioners Perry White, Franklin D. Wicker and <br />Gordon A. Wicker. Commissioner A. E. White was absent. <br />Chairman John E. Dotterer presided and the following business <br />was transacted: <br />Mr. Robert Harris, City Manager, of the City of Sanford, <br />appeared before the Board and explained the expense incurred by the City <br />to provide police protection at the Central High School of the Sanford <br />Administrative Unit. <br />Mr. Kenneth Brinson, Superintendent of the City Board of <br />Education was also present and explained the need for funds to provide pro- <br />tection for the School's property. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Gordon A. Wicker, seconded <br />by Commissioner Franklin D. Wicker, it was RESOLVED to appropriate the <br />sum of $15, 000. 00 to the Sanford and Lee County School Administrative Units, <br />to be apportioned in accordance.with the per capita distribution currently in <br />force if and when $15, 000. 00 in non-tax funds derived from the ABC operations <br />were received by the County, said money to be used by said School Administrative <br />Units for the protection of School properties and personnel. <br />The motion was adopted upon a unanimous roll call vote as follows: <br />AYE: White, Franklin D. Wicker, Gordon A. Wicker and <br />Dotterer <br />NO: None <br />There was a discussion about the method of providing protection <br />in the future for the school property, but no agreement was reached with City <br />Manager, Harris, who said he must confer with the Board of Aldermen of the <br />City of Sanford. <br />City Manager Harris requested the Board of Commissioners <br />and asked that the 175 feet of roadway leading to the Sanford Airport be abandoned <br />as part of the State Maintained Secondary Road System. This request was based <br />upon the anticipated use of the roadway in an expansion of the Airport facilities. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Franklin D. Wicker, seconded by <br />Commissioner Perry White, it was RESOLVED to request the State Highway <br />Commission to abandon and delete that portion of the present Airport road <br />described as follows: <br />
