J BOOK PACE 388 ADJOURNED REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS FOR THE COUNTY OF LEE Monday, November 17, 1969 The Adjourned Regular Meeting of the Board of Commissioners of the County of Lee, was held on Monday, November 17, 1969, at the County Office Building, at the corner of Steele and Wicker Streets, in the City of Sanford, North Carolina, in the Commissioners' Room, at 10:00 o'clock a. m., in accordance with the motion of adjournment. Those present were Chairman John E. Dotterer and Commissioners Perry White, Franklin D. Wicker and Gordon A. Wicker. Commissioner A. E. White was absent. Chairman John E. Dotterer presided and the following business was transacted: Mr. Robert Harris, City Manager, of the City of Sanford, appeared before the Board and explained the expense incurred by the City to provide police protection at the Central High School of the Sanford Administrative Unit. Mr. Kenneth Brinson, Superintendent of the City Board of Education was also present and explained the need for funds to provide pro- tection for the School's property. Upon motion of Commissioner Gordon A. Wicker, seconded by Commissioner Franklin D. Wicker, it was RESOLVED to appropriate the sum of $15, 000. 00 to the Sanford and Lee County School Administrative Units, to be apportioned in accordance.with the per capita distribution currently in force if and when $15, 000. 00 in non-tax funds derived from the ABC operations were received by the County, said money to be used by said School Administrative Units for the protection of School properties and personnel. The motion was adopted upon a unanimous roll call vote as follows: AYE: White, Franklin D. Wicker, Gordon A. Wicker and Dotterer NO: None There was a discussion about the method of providing protection in the future for the school property, but no agreement was reached with City Manager, Harris, who said he must confer with the Board of Aldermen of the City of Sanford. City Manager Harris requested the Board of Commissioners and asked that the 175 feet of roadway leading to the Sanford Airport be abandoned as part of the State Maintained Secondary Road System. This request was based upon the anticipated use of the roadway in an expansion of the Airport facilities. Upon motion of Commissioner Franklin D. Wicker, seconded by Commissioner Perry White, it was RESOLVED to request the State Highway Commission to abandon and delete that portion of the present Airport road described as follows:
