0/ - 3c <br />LEE COUNTY <br />Committed Today for a Better Tomorrow <br />RESOLUTION BY THE LEE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS REQUESTING AN EXTENSION OF THE <br />DEER HUNTING SEASON <br />FROM THE NORTH CAROLINA GENERAL ASSEMBLY <br />WHEREAS, citizens have requested an Extended Deer Hunting Season due to the damage to their <br />gardens and ornamental plants, flowers and shrubs in residential areas caused by proliferation of deer; and <br />WHEREAS, the deer population in Lee County continues to grow under the length of the current season <br />and citizens continue to request an extension of the deer season to more adequately control the population; and <br />WHEREAS, by local act of the legislature, it is unlawful to hunt in Lee County with any weapon while on <br />the land of another, without written permission dated within one year carried on the person of the hunter; and <br />WHEREAS, by local act of the legislature, it is also unlawful to hunt in Lee County with any weapon, any <br />wild animal or bird, or discharge a firearm on, from or across the right-of-way of any public road; and <br />WHEREAS, the Lee County Board of County Commissioners passed a resolution in March of 2010 (copy <br />attached) requesting the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission extend the deer season in Lee County <br />and to this date no action has been taken to extend the season. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Lee County Board of County Commissioners that: <br />The Lee County Board of County Commissioners requests that Lee County be moved from <br />Central Deer Season to the Eastern Deer Season for the purposes of extending the deer hunting <br />season by roughly 4 weeks. <br />2. That this change in zones be effective beginning as soon as possible in accordance with state <br />laws provided approval is received from the State of North Carolina. <br />3. Only hunting on private property is allowed. Hunters must have written permission in their <br />possession dated within one year from landowners to hunt on their property or must own the <br />property themselves. <br />4. All laws, rules and regulations that currently pertain to hunting deer in Lee County continue to be <br />in force even with the change in Deer Seasons. This includes the continuation of the ban on deer <br />hunting with dogs in the County. <br />5. No hunting will be allowed on county property without the written approval of the Lee County <br />Board of County Commissioners. <br />6. The County Clerk is directed to forward copies of this resolution to the Executive Director of the <br />North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission, Senator Ronald Rabin, Representatives Robert <br />Reives, II and Brad Salmon, the Sanford City Council, and the Town Council of Broadway. <br />Adopted this 19th day of October 2015 <br />CA TEST: <br />II M.
