BCDK cO FACE 721 <br />LEE COUNTY <br />Committed Today for a Better Tomorrow <br />MINUTES OF THE WORK SESSION <br />OF THE <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />FOR THE <br />COUNTY OF LEE, STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA <br />NOVEMBER 29, 2005 <br />The special work session of the Board of Commissioners for the County of Lee, <br />State of North Carolina, to discuss federal lobbying issues, convened at 3:00 p.m. in the <br />Small Conference Room, Room #124, Lee County Government Center, 106 Hillcrest <br />Drive, Sanford, North Carolina, on said date. Commissioners present were W. Chad <br />Adams, Robert H. Brown, Herbert A. Hincks, Jerry M. Lemmond, and Amy L. Stevens. <br />Commissioner Robert T. Reives was absent and Commissioner Nathan E. Paschal <br />participated via phone. County Manager David M. Smitherman, County Attorney K. R. <br />Hoyle, Strategic Initiatives Director Lesa Price, and Clerk to the Board Gaynell M. Lee <br />were also present. <br />Chairman Hincks called the meeting to order and the following business was <br />transacted: <br />Mr. Mick Staton from Capitol Link discussed with the Board actions to taken <br />when applying for federal funding for various projects that had been discussed at an <br />earlier meeting attended by Commissioners Brown and Stevens, County Manager <br />David Smitherman, and Strategic Initiatives Director Lesa Price. On July 1, 2005, the <br />Lee County Board of Commissioners entered into an agreement with Capitol Link to act <br />on the County's behalf when seeking federal funding for local projects. <br />Top projects identified include (1) Primary Care Clinic through the Lee County <br />Health Department, (2) gym or multi-purpose room for Floyd Knight School, (3) Endor <br />Iron Furnace, and (4) repair of the San Lee Dam. It was noted that $150,000 has been <br />earmarked from Senator Elizabeth Dole and Senator Richard Burr for the Primary Care <br />Clinic. The Board was urged to act now and have a list of concerns ready to present to <br />Senators Burr and Dole once they return from the holiday break. It was noted that by <br />the first of the year, the Board needed to have a document ready for adoption as their <br />legislative agenda. <br />Mr. Staton discussed with the Board the process the Board needs to take for <br />applying for federal funding.
