Ms. Nicole Benfield read a poem to Officer <br />Parker she had written as a thank-you for saving her life on the night of October 9, <br />2005. <br />Chairman Hincks presented the Gloria M. Williams Award (plaque) to <br />Commissioner Lemmond from the North Carolina Community Action Association in <br />appreciation of his tireless efforts and steadfast support benefiting the low-income <br />citizens of North Carolina. <br />No one signed up to speak during the Public Comments section of the meeting. <br />Revaluation Coordinator Mike Cole updated the Board on the 2007 Revaluation <br />Project. Mr. Cole stated that staff did not meet projected projection numbers for the <br />month of October due to two appraisers who had mandatory week long classes in <br />Chapel Hill. Production for the month of October was projected to be 1600 properties <br />and the actual production was 1132 properties. Mr. Cole stated that he still feels that <br />field work will be completed by July 2006 as anticipated. Commissioner Reives asked <br />what is needed, if anything, to improve the work situation before they get any further <br />behind; he wants to support them but needs to know ahead of time what they might <br />need. No action was taken on the matter. <br />Mr. Jim Felton, Director of the Small Business Center, located at the Dennis <br />Wicker Civic Center gave a power point presentation concerning the Civic Center. Mr. <br />Felton stated that the Civic Center was built in the 1991 using $1.5 million in funds <br />from the State, $2 million in funds from the County, and $400,000 from private <br />donations. He outlined several maintenance issues that need to be addressed in the <br />near future which include the replacement of the fifteen-year old roof, resealing front <br />and rear parking lots, replacement of the walk-in freezer unit and icemaker, refinishing <br />exhibit hall floors, and repair of sections of the exhibit halls. Other recommendations <br />for improvements include soundproofing for double bookings in Main Hall, sound <br />2 <br />
