C>Zoi3 - C.'2 ('0 <br />LEE COUNTY <br />Committed Today for a Better Tomorrow <br />RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF SANDHILLS <br />FARM TO INS ON INITIATIVE <br />WHEREAS, the Sandhills Farm to Institution Initiative is intended to provide <br />expanded, profitable, long -term market opportunities for farmers in Lee, Moore and <br />Richmond Counties by establishing direct, cooperative relationships with the area <br />institutional food buyers such as restaurants, assisted living facilities, hospitals, and <br />schools; and <br />WHEREAS, rich agricultural resources contribute to the economic viability of our <br />county and regional economies, and <br />WHEREAS, over twenty —five diverse community stakeholders, institutions, growers <br />and elected officials in the tri- county region are committed to exploring the <br />possibilities of establishing a coordinated farm to institution initiative in an effort to <br />meet the demand for fresh locally grown produce, and <br />WHEREAS, a feasibility study recently completed has determined that the Initiative <br />can be both technically and economically viable, <br />NOW, THEREFORE, the Lee County Board of Commissioners hereby <br />acknowledges the success of the Sandhills Farm to Institution Initiative will have a <br />positive economic impact in the tri- county region and therefore supports the <br />development and implementation of the Initiative. <br />Adopted this 19th day of August 2013. <br />ATTEST: <br />A al .
