{I <br />9 PAu~375 <br />MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING <br />OF <br />THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />FOR <br />LEE COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA <br />February 5th, 1979 <br />Monday <br />The regular meeting of the Board of Commissioners for the <br />County of Lee, convened in the Commissioners' Room on the second floor of <br />the County Office Building, 200 Wicker Street, Sanford, North Carolina, at <br />9:30 o'clock a. m. , on Monday, February 5th, 1979. . Those present were <br />Commissioners Jack D. Funderburke, K. S. Harmon, Lila P. Nielsen, Clyde <br />J. Rhyne and Gordon A. Wicker. None of the Commissioners were absent. <br />Chairman K. S. Harmon presided and the following business <br />was transacted: <br />The invocation was given by the Reverend Richard Hobson, Pastor <br />of the First Presbyterian Church, Sanford, North Carolina. <br />The minutes of the January 15, 1979 meeting were amended and as <br />amended, were approved and ordered recorded, upon motion of Commissioner <br />Rhyne, which motion was seconded by Commissioner Nielsen and unanimously <br />adopted upon a vote. <br />A petition was presented to the Board requesting a change in a stop <br />sign. The petitioners desired that the stop sign be removed from Secondary Road <br />1156 and placed on Secondary Road 1157, because of the numerous traffic accidents <br />that have resulted from the present method of control. Commissioner Gordon A. <br />Wicker moved that the petition be approved and be forwarded to the Division of <br />Highways and Safety, of the Department of Transportation, for their consideration. <br />Commissioner Rhyne seconded the motion and upon a vote it was unanimously <br />adopted. <br />Commissioner Rhyne reported on the priority list for improvements <br />to secondary roads. Commissioner Wicker complained of the lack of consideration <br />shown for the lower Moncure Road. <br />The Board next considered the bills as presented by the County <br />Finance Officer. Numerous items were individually discussed and following such <br />review, Commissioner Rhyne moved that the bills as listed by the County Finance <br />Officer, be approved for payment. Commissioner Funderburke seconded the <br />motion and upon a vote it was unanimously approved. <br />Mr. Nathan Crissman, Tax Collector, appeared before the Board <br />and reported on his collections to date. Mr. Crissman requested that $3, 000. 00 <br />be appropriated to his office for the employment of an additional clerk in his <br />office. Commissioner Funderburke moved that the sum of $3, 000. 00 be approp- <br />riated from the unappropriated surplus in the General Fund to the office of the <br />Tax Collector's Fund for salaries and that the Tax Collector be authorized to employ <br />a Clerk to work in his office. Commissioner Nielsen seconded the motion and upon <br />a roll call vote, Commissioners Funderburke, Nielsen, Rhyne, Wicker and Harmon <br />voted for it and no one voted against it. <br />
