® 9 " -383 <br />MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING <br />OF <br />THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />FOR <br />LEE COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA <br />Monday, February 19, 1979 <br />0 <br />The regular meeting of the Board of Commissioners for the <br />County of Lee, convened in the Commissioners' Room on the second floor of the <br />County Office Building, 200 Wicker Street, Sanford, North Carolina, at 7:00 <br />o'clock p. m. , on Monday, February 19th, 1979. Those present we're Commiss- <br />ioners Jack D. Funderburke, K. S. Harmon, Lila P. Nielsen, Clyde J. Rhyne <br />and Gordon A. Wicker. None of the Commissioners were absent. <br />Chairman K. S. Harmon presided and the following business was <br />transacted: <br />The minutes for the meeting held on February 5, 1979, were <br />amended and as amended, were approved and ordered recorded upon motion of <br />Commissioner Rhyne,. which motion was duly seconded and upon a vote unanimously <br />adopted. <br />There were no road petitions for consideration by the Board at this <br />meeting; however, Commissioner Rhyne reminded the Board of the meeting of the <br />representatives of the Department of Transportation to be held on Tuesday, Febru- <br />ary 20, 1979, in the District Courtroom. <br />Mr. Bobby Johnson, the Landfill Supervisor, appeared before the <br />Board and suggested that some request concerning the disposition of toxic chemicals <br />should be added to the proposed ordinance concerning solid waste disposal. Mr. <br />Johnson also reported that the deisel class at CCTI had done work on the County's <br />bulldozer and that this assistance was most helpful. <br />Sheriff Harold Thomas appeared before the Board and advised the <br />Board that he was of the opinion that there was $4, 760. 00 in his budget for equip- <br />ment purchases which could be used to purchase a second automobile on the bids <br />taken at the last meeting of the Board. Commissioner Jack D. Funderburke <br />moved that the Finance Officer and the Sheriff investigate to determine if such funds <br />were available and if it were permissable to use them for the purchase of an <br />automobile and in such events then that the Sheriff's Department be authorized to <br />purchase two automobiles from the low bidder, Dowdy Ford, in accordance with <br />the bids received at the previous meeting. Commissioner Lila P. Nielsen second- <br />ed the motion and upon a vote it was unanimously adopted. <br />Mr. Elwin Buchanan appeared before the Board and presented a <br />resolution pertaining to the GKN water line. The resolution was read at length and <br />discussed. Commissioner Clyde J. Rhyne moved the adoption of the resolution, <br />a copy of which is attached to these minutes and by this reference made a part <br />hereof. Commissioner Lila P. Nielsen seconded the motion and upon a vote it was <br />unanimously adopted. <br />
