aiio 9 x398 That, the Board of Commissioners of the County of Lee, commends the Harnett County Historical Society for its interest and efforts in the preservation of the James Archibald Campbell Homestead for use a s a museum in which to house collections of historical value to the Cape Fear Region; and That the Board of Commissioners of the County of Lee, expresses on behalf of the citizens of Lee County, appreciation to the Trustees of Campbell College for donating to the Harnett County Historical Society the James Archibald Homestead and 1.33 acres of land, thus enabling the Society to proceed with the project; and That, the Board of Commissioners of the County of Lee supports the Harnett County Historical Society in its efforts: (1) to preserve this structure so noteworthy because of its architectural design, (2) to collect and display history of the Cape Fear Region thus enhancing the pride of its people in their history, and (3) to provide a site of petential interest to tourists; and That, the Board of Commissioners of Lee County commends this project to the citizens of Lee County for their support and help. Commissioner Clyde J. Rhyne seconded the motion and upon a vote it was unanimously adopted. The Chairman reported that the Johnston-Lee Community Action Program had asked that appointments be made to its Board of Directors by May 11th. The Chairman stated that Mr. Robert Stone did not desire re-appointment; however, that Mrs. Leslie Monroe Smith had indicated she would continue to serve. The representatives of Williams & Works, appeared before the Board and recommended that for the foundation and water line that the low bid of J & L Excavating Company, Columbia, South Carolina in the amount of $43, 610. 50 be accepted and that the low bid of Chicago Bridge & Iron Company, Atlanta; Georgia, for $274, 350.00,.with a 300 day completion date be accepted. Commissioner Clyde J. Rhyne moved that the two low bids, as recommended'by the engineers, be accepted, provided, however if GKN desires to pay the difference between the low bid on the 300 day completion basis and the low bid for a completion date of November 1, 1979, then the County be authorized to contract for a November 1st, 1979, completion date. Commissioner Funderburke seconded the motion and upon a vote it was unanimously adopted. Sheriff Harold Thomas appeared before the Board and advised them that his expenses for repairs to motor vehicles would exceed his appropriation for that purpose. The matter was discussed and Commissioner Jack D. Funderburke moved that the sum of $5, 000. 00 be appropriated from the unappropriated surplus in the General Fund to the Sheriff's Fund for maintenance of vehicles. Commiss- ioner Nielsen seconded the motion and upon a roll call vote, Commissioners Funderburke, Nielsen, Rhyne, Wicker and Harmon voted for it and no one voted against it. Commissioner Rhyne moved the adoption of the following resolution: WHEREAS, Lee County owns the property described in Exhibit A attached hereto, on which is situate a hospital building parking lot and other buildings used in the operation of a hospital; and
