aiio 9 x398 <br />That, the Board of Commissioners of the County of <br />Lee, commends the Harnett County Historical Society for its <br />interest and efforts in the preservation of the James Archibald <br />Campbell Homestead for use a s a museum in which to house <br />collections of historical value to the Cape Fear Region; and <br />That the Board of Commissioners of the County of <br />Lee, expresses on behalf of the citizens of Lee County, <br />appreciation to the Trustees of Campbell College for donating <br />to the Harnett County Historical Society the James Archibald <br />Homestead and 1.33 acres of land, thus enabling the Society to <br />proceed with the project; and <br />That, the Board of Commissioners of the County of Lee <br />supports the Harnett County Historical Society in its efforts: <br />(1) to preserve this structure so noteworthy because of its <br />architectural design, (2) to collect and display history of the <br />Cape Fear Region thus enhancing the pride of its people in <br />their history, and (3) to provide a site of petential interest to <br />tourists; and <br />That, the Board of Commissioners of Lee County commends <br />this project to the citizens of Lee County for their support and help. <br />Commissioner Clyde J. Rhyne seconded the motion and upon a vote <br />it was unanimously adopted. <br />The Chairman reported that the Johnston-Lee Community Action <br />Program had asked that appointments be made to its Board of Directors by May <br />11th. The Chairman stated that Mr. Robert Stone did not desire re-appointment; <br />however, that Mrs. Leslie Monroe Smith had indicated she would continue to serve. <br />The representatives of Williams & Works, appeared before the Board <br />and recommended that for the foundation and water line that the low bid of J & L <br />Excavating Company, Columbia, South Carolina in the amount of $43, 610. 50 be <br />accepted and that the low bid of Chicago Bridge & Iron Company, Atlanta; Georgia, <br />for $274, 350.00,.with a 300 day completion date be accepted. Commissioner <br />Clyde J. Rhyne moved that the two low bids, as recommended'by the engineers, <br />be accepted, provided, however if GKN desires to pay the difference between the <br />low bid on the 300 day completion basis and the low bid for a completion date of <br />November 1, 1979, then the County be authorized to contract for a November 1st, <br />1979, completion date. Commissioner Funderburke seconded the motion and upon <br />a vote it was unanimously adopted. <br />Sheriff Harold Thomas appeared before the Board and advised them <br />that his expenses for repairs to motor vehicles would exceed his appropriation for <br />that purpose. The matter was discussed and Commissioner Jack D. Funderburke <br />moved that the sum of $5, 000. 00 be appropriated from the unappropriated surplus <br />in the General Fund to the Sheriff's Fund for maintenance of vehicles. Commiss- <br />ioner Nielsen seconded the motion and upon a roll call vote, Commissioners <br />Funderburke, Nielsen, Rhyne, Wicker and Harmon voted for it and no one voted <br />against it. <br />Commissioner Rhyne moved the adoption of the following <br />resolution: <br />WHEREAS, Lee County owns the property described <br />in Exhibit A attached hereto, on which is situate a hospital <br />building parking lot and other buildings used in the operation <br />of a hospital; and <br />
