aoo 9 ia097 <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously adopted, the <br />following resolution declaring May 20th through May 26th, as Carolina Brick <br />Week, was adopted: <br />WHEREAS, the Brick Industry in North Carolina <br />makes a significant contribution to the economy of the state <br />by providing employment and construction materials and <br />WHEREAS, the brick manufactured in the state is shipped <br />to all parts of the country bringing recognition to the state because <br />of the quality of the product and <br />WHEREAS, the Sanford Area Chamber of Commerce <br />recognizes this contribution to its own area, the state and the <br />nationand <br />WHEREAS, the Sanford Area Chamber of Commerce <br />will recognize this contribution by celebrating this industry <br />through the Carolina'Brick Festival, May 20 - 26, 1979. <br />NOW THEREFORE IT IS RESOLVED that the week of <br />May 20 - 26, 1979, be designated CAROLINA BRICK WEEK. <br />Commissioner Gordon A. Wicker moved the adoption of the following <br />resolution: <br />WHEREAS, the citizens of Lee County, along with the <br />citizens of Harnett County, wish to show their appreciation for the <br />establishment of the institution, Campbell College, and to pay due <br />homage to the many persons who so carefully and lovingly guided <br />it through severe and perilous times to this day; and <br />WHEREAS, the oldest structure now standing and <br />most closely linked to this heritage is the James Archibald <br />Campbell homestead built in 1890, by Mr. Campbell, the <br />first teacher at the school who was later to be the first Presi- <br />dent of Campbell College; and <br />WHEREAS, the James Archibald Campbell homestead is <br />the birthplace of two other outstanding North Carolina College <br />Presidents, the second President of Campbell College, and the <br />fourth President of Meredith College; and <br />WHEREAS, the architectural style of the James <br />Archibald Campbell homestead is in itself interesting and <br />worthy of note since it is representative of that seen at the <br />turn of the century; and <br />WHEREAS, a historical museum can also serve <br />citizens of the County of Harnett as a much needed meeting <br />place for cultural events, art and civic groups, a senior <br />citizens activity center, and a center for continuing and <br />special education, there being no public facility in the area <br />designated for these varied and very important activities. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED: <br />That, the Board of Commissioners of the County of <br />Lee gives due recognition to the Harnett County Historical <br />Society for its interest in the history of Harnett County and <br />its efforts toward preservation of landmarks pertinent to that <br />history; and <br />
