n r2^, <br />u;,~,X tiv V~GF 2 ~.,:8 <br />JOINT RESOLUTION FOR REQUEST OF PROJECTS IN THE <br />TRANSPORTATION IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM (TIP) 2006-2012 <br />Lee County Board of Commissioners <br />Town of Broadway Board of Commissioners <br />City of Sanford City Council <br />Sanford Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors <br />Lee County Committee of 100 Board of Directors <br />Lee County Economic Development Corporation <br />WHEREAS, the Lee County Board of Commissioners, Town of Broadway Board of <br />Commissioners, City of Sanford City Council, Sanford Area Chamber of Commerce Board of <br />Directors, Lee County Committee of 100 Board of Directors, and Lee County Economic <br />Development Corporation constitute the leadership for the citizens of Broadway, Sanford, and <br />Lee County on matters relating to growth and economic development; and <br />WHEREAS, the above-referenced community leaders unanimously agree that a <br />functional thoroughfare system is the cornerstone of viable economic growth and development; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, the above-referenced community leaders unanimously support the <br />construction of a bypass for US Highway 421 around Sanford and appreciate the efforts by the <br />Division of Highways to expedite this project; and <br />WHEREAS, the above-referenced community leaders are unanimous in their support of <br />the Division of Highways' efforts to improve US 1 from Raleigh to Southern Pines and <br />appreciate efforts by the Division of Highways to expedite this project; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by Lee County Board of Commissioners, <br />Town of Broadway Board of Commissioners, City of Sanford City Council, Sanford Area <br />Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, Lee County Committee of 100 Board of Directors, <br />and Lee County Economic Development Corporation, that: <br />Governor Easley and the North Carolina Board of Transportation are respectfully requested to: <br />Make the Sanford Bypass for US 421 (TIP Project R-2417) a top priority in the <br />Transportation Improvement Program 2006-2012 and are respectfully requested to advance <br />section C and AA of the project to be completed in conjunction with Section BB. If due to <br />funding availability, Section C and AA cannot be completed in conjunction with Section BB, <br />then Section C is requested to have priority over AA. <br />2. Funding to widen NC 42 and Broadway Road from Horner Boulevard to Main Street in <br />Broadway to improve traffic flow due to existing high industrial, student, and work force <br />traffic between Lee County's only two municipalities.
