OFFICE OF THE LEE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />SANFORD NORTH CAROLINA <br />June 4, 1979 <br />Date <br />(Resolution Requesting the State of North Carolina and the United <br />States Department of Commerce to designate Orange, Wake, Durham, Johnston, <br />Chatham, and Lee Counties as an Econo:nic Development District.) <br />Upon motion by Commissioner F underburke and seconded by <br />Commissioner Nielsen the Lee County Board <br />of Commissioners voted to adopt the following Resolution: <br />WHEREAS, these six counties comprise multi-county planning Region <br />J as designated by the Governor of North Carolina, working together <br />through the jointly created Triangle J Council of Governments, have demon- <br />strated their ability to cooperate in many vital areas of regional concern; <br />WHEREAS, THE Triangle J Council of Governments was created, pursuant to <br />North Carolina G.S. 160-20, and is Lead Regional Organization (LRO) for <br />Region J; and <br />WHEREAS, the six counties desire to further their joint efforts toward <br />economic development and development of the. potential of their natural, <br />human, and man-made resources in keeping with wise long-range planning <br />concepts; and <br />WHEREAS, it is understood that the United States Department of <br />Commerce is in the process of developing regulations which will allow <br />regional councils of government to be designated as Economic Develop- <br />ment Districts without changing their board membership by adding per- <br />sons who are not local elected officials; <br />
