MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING <br />OF <br />THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />FOR <br />LEE COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA <br />Monday, June 4, 1979 <br />The regular meeting of the Board of Commissioners for the County <br />of Lee, State of North Carolina, convened in the Commissioners Room on the <br />second floor of the County Office Building, Sanford, North Carolina, on Monday, <br />June 4, 1979, at 9:30 o'clock a, rn. Those present were Commissioners Jack D. <br />Funderburke, Lila P. Nielsen, Clyde J. Rhyne, K. S. Harmon and Gordon A. Wicke <br />The Chairman declared that a quorum was present and the meeting open for the <br />transaction of business, <br />Chairman K. S. Harmon presided and the following business was <br />transacted: <br />The Reverend Bob Shepard, Pastor of the First Baptist Church, <br />Sanford, North Carolina, gave the invocation. <br />The minutes of the regular meeting held on Monday, May 21, 1979, <br />were considered, amended, and as amended, approved for recordation upon motion <br />of Commissioner Nielsen, seconded by Commissioner Funderburke, which motion <br />was unanimously adopted upon a vote. <br />Chairman Rhyne reported there would be a meeting on the route of <br />U. S. No. 1 in the vicinity of Vass on Tuesday, June 5, 1979, at the Town of Vass <br />and the following day (Wednesday), June 6th, the Department of Transportation <br />would hold a meeting in Southern Pines to hear requests for highway projects from <br />counties and cities in our district. Commissioner Rhyne also reported on the plans <br />for securing a delegation to attend the meeting and also on the presentation to be <br />made at the meeting, <br />The Board next considered the monthly bills as listed by the County <br />Finance Officer, Various bills were singled out for examination, review, and <br />discussion. The bills were approved for payment upon motion of Commissioner <br />Rhyne, seconded by Commissioner Nielsen, which motion was unanimously adopted <br />upon a vote, <br />Commissioner Rhyne called to the Board's attention the gas consump- <br />tion report. <br />Commissioner Rhyne reported that Mr, Elwin J. Buchanan, Grants <br />Director, was ill and unable to attend the meeting but that a report on the activities <br />supervised by his department had been prepared for the benefit of the Board, <br />Commissioner Wicker requested that in the future, the Sheriff's <br />Department report on the value of the property stolen as well as the value of <br />property recovered. <br />
