LEE COUNTY <br />Committed Today for a Better Tomorrow <br />RESOLUTION HONORING THE MEMORY <br />OF <br />JULIAN (JUNIOR) POWERS <br />WHO WAS KILLED IN THE LINE OF DUTY IN LEE COUNTY <br />WHEREAS, Julian (Junior) Powers was employed by the Lee County Sheriffs Department as <br />a Lee County Deputy; and <br />WHEREAS, on Monday, June 8, 1959, Deputy Powers, along with other deputies from Lee <br />County, were searching for a suspect in a field off Highway 87, South; and <br />WHEREAS, Deputy Powers came upon the suspect who was laying down in the field; and <br />WHEREAS, Deputy Powers was shot in the chest with a 12 gauge shotgun; and <br />WHEREAS, Deputy Powers was killed immediately from the gunshot; and <br />WHEREAS, Deputy Powers was married and the father of one child at the time of his death; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, Deputy Powers was a dedicated employee and touched the lives of many people <br />that he worked with; and <br />WHEREAS, Deputy Powers made the ultimate sacrifice by giving his life while supporting his <br />fellow employees. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Lee County Board of Commissioners does <br />hereby honor the memory of Deputy Julian (Junior) Powers and does hereby ask that the <br />North Carolina Department of Transportation place a marker at the bridge on Highway 87 <br />South (at the entrance into Carolina Trace) in memory of Deputy Powers. <br />This Resolution duly adopted this 15 day of <br />A EST: <br />a e I M.
