J + . <br />LEE COUNTY <br />Committed Today for a Better Tomorrow <br />LEE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />ITEM ABSTRACT ITEM NO I. <br />XX Information <br />_ Action Item <br />Meeting Date: July 15, 2013 _ Consent Agenda <br />SUBJECT Lee County "Young Commissioner" Youth Leadership Program <br />DEPARTMENT NC Cooperative Extension <br />CONTACT PERSON Bill Stone, Extension Agent 4 -H Youth Development <br />REQUEST Two "Young Commissioners" will provide an overview of their <br />experiences during the first week of the youth leadership program, <br />followed by a preview of what is scheduled for the remainder of the <br />program. <br />SUMMARY The Lee County "Young Commissioner" program is an intensive <br />two -week youth leadership program comprised of twelve rising 7 th <br />10 graders from Lee County. The program kicked off Monday, July <br />8 and will run through Friday, July 19. During this two -week period <br />under the Commissioner's mentorship, participants will gain <br />valuable leadership skills through hands -on workshops and training <br />while also developing a greater awareness and understanding of <br />local government and relevant issues facing their community. <br />ATTACHMENT(S) List of Participants and Program Partners <br />PUBLIC HEARING No <br />PRIOR BOARD ACTION This program has been presented to the Board in previous meetings <br />by Bill Stone and Commissioner Kirk Smith <br />RECOMMENDATION Receive update on the program <br />
