Rhyne opened the meeting with prayer.
The minutes of the regular meeting held on Monday, July 16,
1979, were approved and ordered recorded, upon motion of Commissioner Gordon
A. Wicker, which motion was seconded by Commissioner Clyde J. Rhyne, and
unanimously adopted upon a vote.
Commissioner Gordon A. Wicker reported to the Board that he
had had numerous inquiries from the Tempting Church section and from the Hall
Community in Deep River Township, concerning when the scheduled improvements
to the roads in those areas would begin.
The monthly bills as listed by the County Finance Officer, were
reviewed and discussed and upon motion of Commissioner Gordon A. Wicker,
seconded by Commissioner Lila P. Nielsen, the bills were approved for payment,
upon a unanimous vote of the Board,
Commissioner Gordon A. Wicker requested that the County
employees again be directed to conserve energy by reducing their driving. His
request was prompted by noting that the gas consumption was up on the list of
monthly bills. Chairman Harmon noted that inquiry had already been made and
it had been determined that the Parks and Recreation Commission and the Sheriff's
Department have heavy demands for transportation in July and that all departments
had been instructed to curtail their driving as much as possible.
Mr. Chuck Grubbs, Director, appeared before the Board on behalf
of the Lee County Parks and Recreation Commission. His request was to transfer
people who occupy CETA positions to permanent staff positions. The Board indicated
to Mr. Grubbs that it had not honored requests from any County department or
agency for such a transfer. Commissioner Gordon A. Wicker advised the Board he
would abstain from acting since he served on the Parks and Recreation Commission.
However, no motion was made and therefore no action was taken.
