BOOK 9 ?ACE534 <br />WHEREAS, the State is required to insure <br />that there will be no discrimination against any person <br />of any race, color, sex, creed, or political affiliation; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, the Board of Commissioners of the <br />County of Lee realizes that recreation facilities are not <br />adequate to meet minimum recreational needs of the <br />people of Lee County; and <br />WHEREAS, it is believed that said Board of <br />Commissioners with the assistance of the general public <br />is now in position to lend full support to the renovation <br />of a Swimming Pool and Bath House at Horton Park. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF THE COUNTY OF LEE, <br />NORTH CAROLINA: <br />(1) That an application be made to the Bureau of <br />Outdoor Recreation, Department of the Interior of the <br />U. S. Government through the State of North Carolina, <br />for a development grant of $45, 638 which represents <br />fifty percent (50%) of all costs ($91, 276) including pre- <br />paration, plans, and renovation of recreational facilities <br />to be completed in the fiscal year 1979- 1980. <br />(2) That the Parks and Recreation Director of the <br />County of Lee be authorized and directed to file such <br />application on behalf of the County of Lee, to provide <br />additional information and to furnish such documents <br />as may be required by the Bureau of Outdoor Recreation <br />and the State of North Carolina and to act as the authori- <br />zed correspondent of the County of Lee. <br />(3) That the Director, Bureau of Outdoor Recrea- <br />tion, Department of the Interior of the United States Govern- <br />ment be, and hereby is assured of full compliance by the <br />applicant with the regulations promulgated pursuant to Title <br />VI of Civil Rights Act of 1964. <br />Commissioner Gordon A. Wicker moved the adoption of the <br />foregoing resolution, which motion was duly seconded by Commissioner Jack <br />D. Funderburke and upon a vote it was unanimously adopted. <br />There was next presented to the Board, a grant award from the <br />North Carolina Department of Crime Control & Public Safety to Lee County for <br />Youth Services in the amount of $12, 744. 00 being 80% of the total project cost. <br />The grant award was approved and the Chairman was authorized and directed to <br />sign the acceptance of the grant for and on behalf of the County, upon motion of <br />Commissioner Lila P. Nielsen, seconded by Commissioner Jack D. Funderburke, <br />which motion was unanimously adopted upon a vote. <br />The allocation of $3, 697. 00, as Lee County's share for the <br />Grassroots Arts Program, was reported to the Board by the North Carolina <br />Arts Council. The award was accepted upon motion of Commissioner Gordon <br />A. Wicker, seconded by Commissioner Lila P. Nielsen, which motion was <br />unanimously adopted upon a vote. <br />
